Nick Lachey leading charmed life

Q&A

By Lauren Bishop
Enquirer staff writer

If you missed Nick Lachey practically sweep Alyssa Milano off her feet on the WB's Charmed (8 p.m. Sunday, Channels 64, 26) last week, you have at least five more opportunities to get your Nick fix, starting tonight. We talked with the Newlyweds star and found out how serious he is about acting, what his new album might sound like and whether the Cincinnati native wants to run the city someday.

Question: Tell us what we can expect to see on "Charmed."

Answer: I play a guy named Leslie St. Claire, and basically he's a ghostwriter for Phoebe (Milano), for her column in the newspaper. As they interact, the story line takes a little bit of a romantic turn. I'm not really sure how it ends, to be honest with you.

Q: Is there a chance your character could return?

A: For sure. We haven't had those discussions, but it'd be something I wouldn't rule out.

Q: What's more of a priority for you right now, acting or singing?

A: I think that acting's much more new and kind of fresh and unknown to me. Newlyweds and being on TV has opened up a few doors as far as acting and television, so those are opportunities that are here now and I'm trying to take advantage of, but I don't ever want to give up on music either.

Q: Are you working on a new album?

A: We're in talks with a few different labels about selling a new deal, and then hopefully this fall we'll get started on a new record.

I think I want to do a little more of a soul-based thing. The last record ended up being a little more pop-rock. I don't think that's really where my voice is best suited, and probably not where even my own musical tastes are.

Q: Are you still thinking about running for mayor of Cincinnati?

A: Politics more and more is of interest to me. I think what it really comes down to is how qualified I really am to be mayor of Cincinnati, and it really comes out of my desire to see some things change for the better there. There are probably more effective ways for me to help change than being mayor. It's just hard to have a lot of pride when you see some of the negative things happen to the city and want things to be better.

Q: You were critical of the war in Iraq in a "GQ" interview earlier this year, but you and Jessica were mentioned as being supporters of Bush.

A: Not true. I'll be voting for Kerry.

Thanks for the news. It sounds like he might be close to a record finally. HE does sing that soul/rb music great. I liked his duet with BABYFACE on their Variety Special and his duet with Jeramine Jackson the Motown 45 special awhile back.

Dolphinic-DID YOU REMEMBER TO TAPE REGIS AND KELLY TODAY?
It was pretty good.
