Paris Hilton Reports for Jail

Paris Hilton (http://www.people.com/people/paris_hilton) reported to jail late Sunday night to serve at least 23 days for violating probation.

"I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation," she said in a statement released by her lawyer. "During the past few weeks I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realize I made some mistakes.

"This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."

Hilton's attorney, Richard A. Hutton, said in a press release that the 26-year-old heiress had "turned herself in" to begin serving the sentence at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, south of Los Angeles.

She was booked into the jail at 11:38 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Web site, after days of partying (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20041222,00.html) and just hours after attending the MTV Movie Awards (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20041239,00.html).

Hilton actually surrendered at the downtown L.A. Men's Central Jail at 11:15 p.m. and was transported to Lynwood, according to TMZ.com (http://www.tmz.com/2007/06/04/hilton-in-custody-and-doing-time/), which first reported her surrender.

The procedure at the Lynwood jail required her to surrender all her possessions and then be strip searched before being issued a uniform. She "was cooperative during the [booking] process, which included being fingerprinted, photographed [and] medically screened," a Sheriff's Department statement said.

The statement added that Hilton was issued a booking number and wristband and surrendered her personal property to custody personnel for safekeeping. She was also issued jail clothing, an orange top and pants and personal hygiene items, according to the statement. When the booking process was completed around 1 a.m., Hilton was escorted to her cell.

"Ms. Hilton will be housed in a cell by herself and will be segregated, in a special housing unit, from the general population during her stay at CRDF," the statement said.

Hilton was sentenced to jail (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20037947,00.html) on May 4 for violating the terms of her probation by repeatedly driving with a suspended license. She had been placed on probation after pleading no contest (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20009307,00.html) to reckless driving in a drunken driving case.

The judge ordered her to serve 45 days, but with good behavior she could be out in 23 days. In the jail, Hilton will have little to no contact with the general inmate population "to ensure her safety as well as the safety of the jail staff," Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore has said.

Hilton will spend approximately 23 hours a day in a 12-by-8-foot cell containing two bunks, a table, a sink, a toilet and a small window, with one hour for recreation. She will eat her meals in the cell. She could also leave her cell to meet with her attorney or to attend classes.

Paris Hilton says that she had the option to go to a more upscale jail, but opted for a county jail instead.
"I did have a choice to go to a pay jail," Hilton told reporters (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070604/en_afp/entertainmentcrime;_ylt=AlSuk6jSHrEHMY7hDRgz7bZxFb 8C) on Sunday. "But I declined because I feel like the media portrays me in a way that I'm not and that's why I wanted to go to county, to show that I can do it and I'm going to be treated like everyone else. I'm going to do the time, I'm going to do it the right way."
The 26-year-old heiress checked herself into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood to serve her 23-day sentence just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
The jail, a two-story concrete building is located in an industrial area about five miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
The Simple Life star will be housed in the "special needs" unit of the 13-year-old facility, separate from most of its 2,200 inmates. The unit contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates.
Like other inmates in that unit, Hilton will take her meals in her cell and will be allowed outside the 12-foot-by-8-foot space for at least an hour each day to shower, watch TV in the day room, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone.
No cell phones or BlackBerrys are permitted in the facility, even for visitors.
"During the past few weeks, I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realize I made some mistakes," Hilton said in a statement (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070604/people_nm/hilton_dc;_ylt=AvBWHMNSS5491caoSdQVOXFxFb8C) through her lawyer.
"This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make."

Yeah they booed her,and were cracking jokes...I heard she left like 30 minutes into the show.

A woman called Ryan Seacrest's morning show this morning here in LA, she supposedly had a run in with Paris yesterday at the award shows. She said they were booing her and cracking jokes and Paris looked really sad. She went to her and asked to take a picture, she said Paris told her she wish everyone would stop bashing her, she's learned her lesson, it's time to move on. The girl said she felt bad for her, and supposedly told her to keep her head up, and everything would work out for her.

^^^^I dont feel bad for her. That is what Hollywood should do is make fun of these "princess' " who think they own the world. I heard the comments and I thought it was funny. Paris should have stayed at home.
