A source close to the couple tells Usmagazine.com, "[John] was just over her. He wasn't into her anymore. He was ready to move on.”
Seconds another source: "Jessica and John are done. She is really bummed, but wants to put her best foot forward and continue being out and about. She is just having fun and not interested in any new boys.”
But don't count them out yet. Another friend close to the couple tells Usmagazine.com that the split “is more of a cooling down.”
"The same sense of excitement and interest just isn't there as much,” says the source. “I have no sense of a tearful breakup or anything like that. It's just losing steam. It is more of a separation."
Simpson, 26, jetted to the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week where she and her father were seen at the My Blueberry Nights after party on Wednesday night mingling with the likes of Harvey Weinstein and Norah Jones past 2:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, the “Waiting On the World to Change” singer was back in NYC attending Chris Rock's surprise performance at The Comedy Cellar on Saturday night, and partied at Stereo last night with comedian Sherrod Small and model Jessica Stam.
Mayer chose not to accompany Jessica to the famed film fest, possibly due to the split, and also because "he is not interested in movie people or being around that, and she is trying to establish herself as an actress. He is happy being a musician and around music people."
Instead, Mayer, 29, will spend the next week and a half relaxing in New York until his next tour kicks off on June 1.
"The truth is we won't really know if it is done for good until he goes on tour and we see if she is there with him again,” says the source. “That is when we will know if this is definitive."
Mayer’s rep tells Usmagazine.com, "We do not comment on the personal lives of our clients."

This doesn't surprise me, I always wondered about this relationship anyway.
1) Was it real to begin with, all the photos in Rome seemed "staged" to me OR is this breakup another publicity stunt to keep her in the news, she does have a movie coming out. After her movie bombs, will her and John be back together.
2) She's back blonde now, is she letting go of the idea of trying to "fit" into John's world, and going back to the real Jessica, who she's trying so desperately to put behind her or forget.
This chick confuses the hell out of me.

It's a shame but I guess Mayer could'nt put up with her and her daddy. They were a strange couple, although I must say Jessica sure did lower her standards and fit right in with John's couch potato sloppy look. She really needs a pick me up bigtime. Jessica has already lightened her hair. She will be blonde in no time at all. I just hope she leaves Nick and Vanessa alone and lets them be happy.

Jessica Simpson is back in New York and on Monday the suddenly single star took a visitor at her hotel - John Mayer.
In Touch Weekly is reporting (http://intouchweekly.hollywood.com/) that the pair went on a date on Sunday night but that they're not getting back together.

Sorry, but Britney and Jessica are polar opposites IMO. Britney had to be forced into rehab because she was out of control, which is incredibly sad, while Simpson is using her personal life to keep her in the news, even to the point of faking a relationship, or faking a breakup. You can't get more pathetic than that. The fact that it was revealed that her relationship with Mayer is on/off again at times, just goes to show that those "lovey-dovey" pics of them were BS.

She is the most lost girl in the world. I never thought John was that interested in her ever, and now he has dumped her. But, now they say he was seen leaving her apt. after she got back in town yesterday, and he had a big grin on his face. WOW!! Speaks, volumes to me....if he really cared, he wouldn't just come over for the sex, and then ignore her in public. I would be happy if I never heard another thing about either of them.
Just leave Nick alone, and maybe just maybe, she can find herself, and we will get lucky, and not have to hear her name every time Nick is mentioned..

Yeah, but even though he's moved on, you still have feelings in your heart and head for that person, they're not so easy to turn off and will always be there. At least it's that way for me.

I'm not saying that Nick wants them to be together anymore, I also see that he's comfortable with Vaness and has moved on. I'm just saying that you will always carry a little bit of that person with you and will always want whats best for them no matter what.

Me too. I was in a serious relationship before I met my husband. When it was over it was hard, but we moved on (even though we still went to church together and had the same friends).
We both found new relationships (me with my husband and he with his wife) soon after we broke up. It took some time but eventually we were very happy for eachother b/c we had each found our true soulmates.
You can love someone who is not right for you. When that relationship is over, it's easier to see that you are better off without.
Nick and Jessica have a history together but he is in a much better place now. I'm sure he has good memories of his time w/her but he has moved on. He is in love with someone (now) who is perfect for him in every way.
I agree, I'm sure he will always feel something for Jessica but I think he has totally moved on and is happy with Vanessa. He probably thinks about Jess sometimes but the memories are probably far and few between now. Hopefully he hs put all the hurt behind him and is just focusing on V and their relationship.

I meant that J and B are constantly on the celebrity blogs and on the news, it's beginning to be a bit much. I could care less about either one, and wish they would go away for a while, work out your problems in private...I don't care what no one says, it can be done.
