I don't think so - the car number belongs to the car owner - and unless it goes unused for at least 2 years - no one else can use it.
I just think this is the end of DEI - and I think Dale Sr would be upset that his son was being put in this type of position (although - I also think he'd accept Jr's decision to leave).
:) Thanks about the # info, after I posted I asked my man and he said the same thing you said.lol..
I agree 100%.., I think Sr. would be very unhappy with how Theresa has treated Jr.( probley turning over in the grave as we speak), I just do not care for her at all, never have, seems VERY money hungry, complete oppsite of Sr. and Jr., they are very humble, and down to earth!!I LOVE them both, like I love the Lachey brothers..lol:D

If anyone wants to watch the announcement part of the conference: click here (http://www.speedtv.com/speedvideo/?bcpid=340473122&bclid=463916312&bctid=882405797)
I have a lot to say on this so this is going to be a very long post lol
I had a feeling that this announcement was coming. I saw the press conference today on Speed Channel. Dale Jr was very emotional. That is understandable. He had quite a few emotional moments during the conference. He never broke down in tears, but he was an emotional wreck. I'm waiting for the video to be posted on youtube:)
Teresa just lost a great driver. I think she's going to lose A LOT of money. I've been to the retail store at DEI and most of the merchandise that people buy is Dale Jr's. While I think Martin Truex Jr.(Dale Jr's current teammate) is a great driver as well. I am a little sad that Dale Jr is leaving DEI, he had to make the right decision for himself. I always go back to the old saying "When one door closes, another one opens" Dale Jr will win again & he will be chosen by a top team in the sport.:D
I also think that Teresa is going to lose more employees than just Dale Jr. A lot of Dale Jr's pit crew are his family members. I wonder how many of them will leave DEI and go with Jr. At the beginning of this season Dale Jr's cousin & crew chief Tony Eury Jr (said in numerous interviews) if Dale Jr ever left DEI he was leaving too.
What about Budweiser? Will they stay with DEI or go with Jr? Here's Budweiser's statement concerning Jr leaving DEI:
Longtime Earnhardt Jr. sponsor Budweiser also weighed in on the announcement with a statement by Tony Ponturo, Vice President, Global Media and Sports Marketing Anheuser-Busch, Inc.:
"Budweiser, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Dale Earnhardt Inc. have enjoyed a great relationship since 1999. Dale Jr., and his father before him, have been excellent and loyal ambassadors for our company and the sport of NASCAR. Budweiser and JR Motorsports have an agreement in place to ensure Dale Jr. will continue to personally represent Budweiser through 2008, and we look forward to discussing our future with Dale Jr. and DEI in the weeks ahead."

What does everyone think of that?
I think Dale Jr maybe worried that he will lose some fans because of his choice, but if they are true fans they will follow him where ever he goes JMO
There are Dale Jr fan message boards on the net where people are questioning why Jr has decided to leave DEI. I think Jr made the right choice for him.

I think DEI will crash and burn after Dale Jr leaves

The #8 & all of the numbers are owned by NASCAR. I don't think he can take it with him, unless he can buy it.

It is ok..It is a great post!! You are soooo RIGHT!!!
update..I just watched the news conference (thx for the link), It made me cry, you could tell this was so hard for him to do! I noticed at the end he thanked his family for being there today supporting him and he named his grandmother (Sr. mom) was there, how sweet we know who she supports!. I support him 100%!!
