We just came upon this interview (http://www.berklee.edu/bt/172/coverstory.html) that John Mayer gave to his alma matter, the Berklee College of Music, back in 2005.
It's quite an interesting read!
Here is our favorite part of the article:Berklee: A lot of young musicians think it would be great to become famous. Can you talk about fame from your vantage point? John Mayer: Everything in your career is based on decisions. You have more control over the outcome of your life than you can imagine. If you are going to get into the arena where you will be famous, you'd better understand what that will mean. I've had to make some hard decisions at some points. I'd hear, "John, do you want to come to this premiere with this person, or do you want to go to this party where so-and-so will be? He really wants you to be there." Some of those choices would mean that I'd appear in a newspaper or magazine, and then that would attract others to follow me with cameras. If I had done things differently, I'd probably have the paparazzi waiting around for me. At the studio where I've been recording, Jessica Simpson is working there, too. The paparazzi are outside waiting for her to come out. That's the result of her decisions. My decisions have led me to the point that when I walk out in front of the paparazzi, I'm considered a waste of film.Fame is interesting. It can come to life. You have to know yourself so well. There are nights when I want to get trashed on heartbreak, Hollywood, camera flashes, cars, the music and the romance, and pushing past the line. But those are tickets out. I've been able to somehow get all the things that people who want to be famous get without any of the things that make you think fame is not all it's cracked up to be. I've passed up a lot of tempting things that would lead to things I don't want. There is a lot of restraint involved. I am not in Us Weekly. I'd have to be going out with someone who is in there to be in there myself. But I get paid as much as the person who is on the cover."That John Mayer always gives good quote!

A lot of Nicks fans aren't happy he's dating V, so what is the difference? Why call John a hypocrite when Nick said one week in an interview he was keeping his private life private, and then the very next week he sings to V on stage knowing it'd be video taped by the fans and on the web the next day!? Then he did the whole big NYE thing on tv. Nick did a quick turn around. So what is the difference? No difference. I'm so happy to see Jess having a good time.
I agree w/ you yepperoo. #1 the interview was old, 2 years ago. It sounds to me that he didn't even know her then. A lot of things change over time. Not to mention the fact that you cannot help who you fall in love with. No one can hold him to his views from 2 years ago. Not fair. I can't imagine being a true fan of his & then decide not to like him because of who he is dating. I am just glad to see that Nick & Jess are both happy.

I can't tell, every site I go on she gets nothing but love. I myself am not too fond of V, but I always read happy things from fans regarding her and Nick...and I didn't call John a hypocrite, I've read that from fans.
I don't give a damn about John or Jessica, they can go get married, have a bunch of kids, do crack....whatever...I could care less.

He did know her two years ago, there's a photo of her and John at I believe Clive Davis's yearly grammy party. You probably wounldn't notice him, because he was big at the time. They've known each other for years.
You know fans hold you accountable for everything, that's why I believe it's best to keep your mouth shut on some things. You never know what direction life is going to take you. In the past, he made it seem like he was too good to date someone like J...now look.

I just don't understand the man-purse.. Do straight men carry man-purses?? I asked my bf and he said, HELL NO! I also asked my hair dresser who is a gay man (love him to death), he said the same thing... I am not saying John is gay, but I just don't understand why he would carry a purse on a date, he even tosses it in the back seat just like I do:wondering: ..(I watched the video)

I remember hearing that Nick liked trying on Jess's high heeled shoes. So what does that make Nick? Gay? Cross dresser? Nick also used to wear an earring which I never liked to see on a guy.
Plenty of guys use light weight bags instead of heavy briefcases to lug around their ipods,...computers, cellphones and other things they need.
My bet is that if Nick used one, fans would suddenly considered it cool. Nick used to use a "sports bag" and toss it in the back seat. hehe They make bags for everything, even the lil pooches and kitties. :)
Then again, JM is just plain weird anyway.
I think he's just plain weird, imo.

There's a difference between a sports bag and a purse. I don't know any straight men that carry purses either.
Personally, I don't think John is gay either.....he's just creepy looking(that gothic look) and from what I've seen in interviews, his personality is a turn-off.

Exactly. That's what I consider to be "ewwww...".
He's just an odd dude. If he had an attractive personality, he would not be a bad looking guy. His freakish personality is what gives me the creeps.:confused:

Well said, I do remember my husband carrying mine a few times for me when we were loaded down with luggage or kids etc. Also, he is an attorney, therefore always carries a laptop. He carries it in a leather briefcase (sp)? and if I saw him ever carry something looking like John Mayer....we wouldn't be married anymore!:rolleyes:
Funny thing is, he always has a gym bag with him also. Oh yeah, we were talking about Nick. *drool*
