Question about itunes/Mp3 players

Does anyone know if it's possible to take music that you have bought from itunes and convert it onto an MP3 player? I was under the impression that itunes were only compatible with ipods. Someone I know went and bought a bunch of music from itunes but they have an MP3 player and not an ipod. They thought it wouldn't matter. Any suggestions??

When I buy music from itunes, I burn it onto a cd then rip from cd to windows media player. Then you can put it on any mp3.
