A Los Angeles judge agreed to terminate Courtney Love's probation for drug and misdemeanor assault charges today following her successful completion of a drug rehabilitation program.
In February 2005, Love plead guilty to one count of misdemeanor possession of a narcotic (Oxycontin) with a fictitious prescription and no contest to one count of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon likely to cause great bodily injury (referring to an incident which stemmed from Love’s April 2004 arrest for entering the house of her ex-boyfriend and assaulting a woman, Kristin King, who was sleeping on the couch). Love also settled her other outstanding criminal case by pleading guilty to her drug possession arrest that occurred in October 2003. The plea was considered a deferred entry of judgment, meaning that if Love complied with the terms and conditions of her court ordered treatment in an 18 month period, the plea could be dismissed,
Love was sentenced to three years probation, ordered to complete one year of anger management counseling, one year of a drug treatment program, 100 hours of community service, random drug testing and a $1,000 fine. Love was also required to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings three times a week.
Love's attorney, Howard Weitzman tells Us that,"This morning all cases were dismissed and the record was expunged before Judge Rand Rubin, who made a point that was really cool. He said 'You have done more than expected, and many times it doesn’t happen that way.' And he said 'I commend you.' He dismissed all the cases, terminated probation and [is] expunging [her] record.“
"I'm so happy and excited. I'm relieved," Love tells Us exclusively. "I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm happy helping people and helping myself. I just want to put all this stuff behind me. It's all so last year."
