TV Star and Singer to Headline Ceremony Celebrating Organization's 100th Anniversary

PHILADELPHIA, June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Nick Lachey, the accomplished singer and star of the hit reality program "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica," soon will add another "big" project to his portfolio -- helping Big Brothers Big Sisters, the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization ion the country, celebrate its centennial anniversary.

The celebration, which will take place on June 16 in New York City, will feature a "grand reunion" of former Big and Little Brothers and Sisters from around the country -- the largest such reunion in the organization's 100-year history. Lachey, who will headline the event, which is being called the Grand Reunion Centennial Scoop, will be joined by such famous personalities as football great Lynn Swann and basketball legend Bill Russell, as well as countless others who have devoted their time and energies to helping at-risk youth.

"Our centennial ceremony will be the ultimate 'reality' event that demonstrates that amazing things can happen when you match a Big with a Little," said Judy Vredenburgh, president and chief executive officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. "We couldn't think of a better star than Nick Lachey to headline the event. His involvement will serve as a model for a younger generation of men and women to consider mentoring youth in their own communities."

"It's amazing to me how you can change a young person's life by spending as little as one hour a week with them sharing simple things like a pizza or an ice cream cone. It's really about being a friend," said Lachey. "I hope my involvement can help drive matches in the more than 5,000 communities nationwide where Big Brothers Big Sisters has a presence," added Lachey.

As a testament of the organization's success, a commemorative collection of 100 Big Brothers Big Sisters stories will be unveiled at the June 16 event.

The book, Little Moments Big Magic: Inspirational Stories of Big Brothers and
Big Sisters and the Magic They Create, offers examples of successful matches,
most written by former Big and Little Brothers and Sisters.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters centennial celebration will be held in its birthplace, New York City, where it was founded in 1904. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bryant Park.
