Individual tickets for All-Star Sunday, to be held July 11, 2004 as the first of three days of 2004 All-Star events at Minute Maid Park in Houston, will go on sale beginning Thursday, May 27, 2004, it was announced today.
For the second consecutive season, the outcome of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game will impact postseason play, as the team representing the winning League in this year's Midsummer Cl[arse]ic will have home field advantage in the 2004 World Series.
Beginning at 10:00 a.m. (CDT) on Thursday, May 27, all available individual tickets for All-Star Sunday may only be purchased via the internet at Major League Baseball's website (www.mlb.com) and the Houston Astros website (www.astros.com).
The New York Mercantile Exchange All-Star Futures Game, which will take place at 3:00 p.m. (CDT) on July 11, features the top prospects in Minor League Baseball, with a team of U.S.-born players competing against players from around the world, as a showcase of the great international talent throughout baseball. Some of the alumni from previous New York Mercantile Exchange All-Star Futures Games include 2003 World Series Most Valuable Player Josh Beckett, 2003 American League Rookie of the Year Angel Berroa, 2002 American League Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito and Houston's Lance Berkman.
The 2004 All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game, which features stars from film, music and television teaming up with former Major Leaguers, will take place at approximately 5:30 p.m. (CDT) following the conclusion of the New York Mercantile Exchange All-Star Futures Game.
Among the former Major Leaguers scheduled to participate are Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith, Rollie Fingers, Dave Winfield and Ernie Banks, as well as former Astros Larry Dierker, Mike Scott and Cesar Cedeno and former Texas Rangers first baseman Will Clark.
Some of the celebrities scheduled to participate in the 2004 All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game are: Nick Lachey (MTV's "Newlyweds"); Bill Rancic ("The Apprentice" winner); Brooke Burke (E!'s "Rank"); Shandi Finnessey (Miss USA 2004); LeeAnn Tweeden ("Best Damn Sports Show Period"); Matthew Modine ("The Winning Season"); Jimmy Kimmel ("Jimmy Kimmel Live"); Mark Consuelos (actor); Ruben Studdard ("American Idol" winner); Jennifer Esposito ("Breakin' All the Rules") and Houston-native Clyde Drexler (NBA Hall of Famer).
