i was just wondering about what everyone here thought about drug testing because i'm required to go do a drug test for this job that i *might* be able to get if i can get my apartment. but before anything else can be done we have to get the drug test done. so what do you guys think about it. i think it depends mostly on the line of work you're in. i mean there are certain professions that i think it's really important to know if someone has a drug problem because i know that medically i wouldn't want some hopped up doctor working with me. but like for like a courtesy clerk, i don't know i mean it's not like it takes much to do that job so why should it matter. i just think that it's kind of an infringement on my rights but it could just be me. i wouldn't mind so much if they didn't make it a requirement. if i could choose not to take it and still be able to get my job then that'd be a different issue to me ya know? but yeah what do you guys think?

I can't think of any jobs where it would be a good idea to do while on drugs. Do you want someone smoking pot and driving your kids on the school bus? Working retail even, you couldn't count on the right money being processed and if they are on heavier drugs, they may steal to get the drugs. Rationality changes when on some drugs so I think it's a good idea. It is illegal, they can't not hire you for taking prescriptions drugs you have a prescription to take. I had to take drug and polygraph for my last job.

well see i guess when it comes to people i would think that some would be smart enough not to do drugs while they would be on the job. but i guess that's just me. and as to where i'm going with this, i'm being hired as a courtesy clerk and you know what that really doesn't entail too much. if i were going for a higher position i could understand it but a courtesy clerk? maybe it's just me i don't know. as rae would say i'm an idiot anyway so i guess my opinion doesn't matter.

Yes, but are there higher up positions? Normally, you can't drug test for one position without doing them all, you have to make it a company policy so that you aren't accused of harr[arse]ment. If it is a company policy, you do everyone, and no one can hit you with a discrimination or harr[arse]ment suit. It's the whole big picture thing they look at.
And unfortunately not all people are smart enough to not do the drugs during work. WHere I used to work three guys got fired for smoking pot on the job - isn't that what you want an electrician to do while wiring YOUR house???

see now that's definitely a job that i think people should be tested for but i dunno it just gets on my nerves. and i'll bet you anything i'm the only person in the whole freaking world who thinks this way but you know what i was never one to follow the crowd. i just hate so much that they [arse]ume guilt through this before believing innocence.

I think that its a good idea for a drug test to be done for a job. To many people now smoke things that they shouldn't be doing and get high from it. Would you want to work with someone that had done that right before they got to work? I know that I would not want that to happen. I would be okay with going in for a drug test to prove that I'm not the one smoking pot or any stupid thing like that
