View Full Version : Britney's "Touch Of My Hand"
okay, i haven't bought britney's latest cd because i was not impressed with the singles. (yes, i listen to her from time to time. she has a really bad voice, but some of her songs are addictive...lol!) anyway, given that her fan base is mostly made up of 11-15 year olds, do you think that she made a mistake by putting "touch of my hand" as one of the tracks? my opinion is yeah, she is a adult now but she seems to be forgetting the fans who made her the idol she is.

I think she's trying to broaden her fan base. I, personally, can't stand her new music. Even my kids ask me to change the station when she comes on, Toxic is horrible. I heard her say on an interview that it was to be futuristic but it reminds me of the opening songs for The Munsters or Addams Family. I turn off the radio when it comes on. I don't know what direction she is wanting to take but it's not on my route :)

But Gidget, as Courlyn said - she's trying to get the more adult fan base - her Onyx tour shows that (been compared to a porno flick). Yes, a large portion of her fan base is the young teen girls - but I think she was trying to grow with the fans she had previously who were her own age as well - and singing about things that that group can relate to so as to NOT lose them by staying with the 'bubble gum' sound they liked 4 or 5 years ago - but have outgrown now.
Personally, I haven't heard Brit's new stuff other than the 2 singles she's released - but the same general argument could be said for several of the 'pop' artists recently. JC Chasez - 90% of his solo album is sexually related (from what I've heard) yet the majority of his fan base is also the young teen female (based on the NSYNC fandom). Nick Lachey - SHUT UP; IT'S ALRIGHT - yes, 98 always had an older base of fans than NSYNC/BSB - but the marketing (if you can call it marketing since UNI did jack for it) done for the cd was more for the teen crowd.
This same debate has in actuality been around for ages though - the teen artists grow up and want to sing/write songs about their own life experiences - but they do it quicker than their fan base matures or is prepared for it (NKOTB - with their FACE THE MUSIC album was a prime example of that from my semi-youth; I loved their previous "cheesy" albums - but I was not ready to be hearing them sing about one-night stands, etc so openly as they did with their first [and was it only] single from their final studio album[and I was one of their 'older' fans]).
good points! new kids had a one night stand song? where was i? lol! of course, i was like 7 so i wouldn't know what it was about anyway! lmao! but i had the biggest crush on joe...hehe :D

I can't remember what exactly it was about - but it was the first (and only?) single off of Face The Music (can ya tell I didn't like the song since I don't remember).

you know what i think it's courageous of her to go that far. she's at least taking a stand for herself and not letting her label control what she's putting out. at least it doesn't seem like she is and i think that's awesome because far too many artists let their labels control them. i think the artists should control the label in all honesty. i guess that's why i would never make it lmao.
