A Fatal Secret

~Chapter 1~

Jessica Simpson (Or Lachey, depending who you’re talking to) looked over her living room surroundings. “I love this house” she thought.

She and husband, Nick Lachey had been married for about 3 years and now they had a daughter, Angel Nichole, together, who was 2 .
Jessica smiled as she remembered the night Nick had asked her to marry him. They were about to sing their new duet they had recorded together, and Nick had gotten down on one knee and asked her to marry him in front of all their fans. She had gladly accepted, though it took Jessica by complete surprise.
Their wedding was a fairy tale. All the family and friends were around, celebrating their love for each other.
Now, their singing careers were over, and soon after the both of them had stepped down, Angel was born. The both of them were delighted when she arrived. They loved being parents.
So, Jessica stayed home, did housework and took care of Angel, while Nick had a high-paying job at a record company.

They had bought the house they lived in now when they moved in together before they got married. It was a dream house, on the California coast, and nothing could beat the life Jessica had now.

Jessica heard Angel calling for her, so she walked up to her room.
Angel had had Jessica’s blonde hair and those beautiful blue eyes similar to her fathers.
“Hey Angel” Jessica said. “You have a good nap?”
Angel nodded. “Yep, I did”
Jessica picked her up and Angel asked her “Mama, can we look for seashells?”
Jessica nodded. “Sure, let’s go find your bucket and stuff”

10 minutes later, Jessica and Angel were on the beach, since the house was on the coast. Jessica smiled as she followed her daughter and helped look for shells. This was one of Angel’s favorite things to do and Jessica loved to do it with her.
“This girl’s a miracle” Jessica thought as she looked at her.
Jessica looked over the water. “My life is perfect now right now” she thought. “I don’t think I ever want to go back to what it was a few years ago”
Jessica was jarred from her thoughts when she heard Angel say “Mommy, look at this one”
Jessica looked at the shell. It was a good size shell, with a swirl of purple and jade.
“That’s very pretty, Angel, put it in your bucket.”
Angel had it to her ear. “I can hear the ocean, too” And with that, she put in her bucket.

The duo spent about 2 ½ hours on the beach looking. By the time they got back to the house, it was a quarter till 5.
“You know, angel” Jessica said. “Daddy will be home soon. You think we should start cooking dinner?”
Angel nodded and they looked in the fridge for something to eat.
“What about lasagna?” Angel suggested.
Jessica nodded. “That’s a good idea. We haven’t made that in awhile, and we know Daddy will like that.”

Jessica and Angel spent about an hour and 15 minutes cooking dinner. By about 6:00, the lasagna, garlic bread and salad were on the table and ready.
“Now, all we need is Daddy” Angel commented.
Jessica smiled. “That’s right.”

At about 6:15, Nick came in the kitchen, saying “I smell dinner on the table”
“Hey Nick” Jessica said.
“Hey babe” Nick gave Jessica a kiss on the cheek , and then kissing his daughter.

Nick was a handsome man, with brown hair and piercingly gorgeous blue eyes. He was 33, 8 years Jessica’s senior, but that really didn’t matter. They loved each other all the same.
Nick had been in a car accident a few years back, but now you could hardly tell. His leg that had been injured would stiff up a little every once and awhile, but nothing else.

“So, does dinner look good?” Jessica asked him.
Nick nodded. “Especially since I haven’t gotten a thing to eat today.”
Jessica raised an eyebrow. “I thought you had a cup of coffee this morning.”
“I did” Nick told her. “But I haven’t gotten anything like, eat or anything”

The three of them had an enjoyable dinner, then they went to the living room, until Jessica put Angel to bed at about 8:20.
After Jessica came back down she noticed that Nick looked a little sad. “What’s wrong, Nick?”
“Nothing, its just things at work are getting pretty hectic.”
“Care to share?” Jessica asked him. “Because I’ll listen”
Nick sighed. “This coworker of mine was being annoying and wouldn’t leave me alone and I’ve noticed a lot of tension between Missy, Carl, and Court”
(Missy, Carl, and Court are Nick’s coworkers)
“Why? What’s happened?” Jessica asked.
“Well, you knew that Missy and Carl had been dating, right?”
Jessica nodded.
”Well, Missy told me that Court has been after Carl recently. She is always making moves on him at work and won’t leave him alone. She’s even invited him over to her house a few times. He always refuses, but still”
“Why can’t Court just keep it to herself that she wants him?”
“Beats me” Nick said. “But actually, could you please in the office with me tomorrow?
I’ll be cooped up in there all day and I need some company”
“I guess I’ll come” Jessica said. “I’ll leave Angel off with a friend so it’ll be just you and me.”
Nick smiled. “That’ll be great, babe.” They kissed.

That night, Nick and Jessica came up in their bedroom, and Jessica went into the bathroom beside it to take her shower. After she came out, only wrapped in a towel, Nick looked at her, and whistled. “You realize how sexy you look when you just get out the shower, don’t you?”
Jessica rolled her eyes. “Shut up, you bad boy.” She walked over to the dresser.
Nick smiled. “I try,” and Jessica went back into the bathroom, pajamas in hand.

After Jessica came back out, she and Nick got under the covers and pulled each other close. “Goodnight, Jess” Nick whispered.
“Goodnight Nick” Jessica whispered back.
