This is one of my Nick fics that I am writing. Hope ya enjoy! :)

~Chapter 1~

Nicholas Scott Lachey, mostly known to everyone as Nick, was waiting in the waiting room, of the doctor’s office to be taken in. Recently, strange things had been happening him. He’d felt so tired, had noticed his skin had lost some color, and bruises had come up, which he had no idea where they came from. He’d also noticed that he’d a having a little bit of a fever.

Nick sighed and a nurse came out

“Nicholas Lachey?”

Taking a deep breath, Nick walked back to the rooms and let the nurse take his blood pressure, height and weight. “Dr. Millerson should be in soon.”

Gazing at his surroundings, Nick was terrified. What he’d been feeling recently was suspicious, but he hoped it was nothing.

Then, Dr. Millerson walked in, he said “Hello Nick, what can I do for you today?”
Nick sighed. He described his symptoms.
The doctor sighed. “Hmm… sounds suspicious. I think we need to run a blood test. You ok with that?”
Nick could only nod. Whatever they needed to do to confirm what was wrong with him.

2 hours after the blood test, Dr. Millerson came back and told him they needed to do further tests on him. Nick just simply cooperated with whatever they wanted.

3 hours after those other tests were taken, Nick looked at his watch. He realized that he’d been there since 1 o’clock that afternoon, almost 5 hours. Nick was anxious to get out, but also wanted to know what was wrong with him. “Justin, Drew and Jeff are gonna be so mad at me.” He thought.

He, Justin Jeffre, Jeff Timmons, and his younger brother Drew Lachey were in a group called 98 degrees. Their career was in high gear and Nick hoped that what Dr. Millerson told him wouldn’t interfere.

Finally, Dr. Millerson came in with a slightly grim look on his face. Nick didn’t like the look of it.
“I have some bad news, Nick. I’m afraid the news I’m about to give you won’t be very good.”
“What is it?” Nick asked.
“The disease you have is Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. That means that it’s very aggressive and can develop very quickly. So, we need to get treatment for you immediately.”
“What of treatment do you recommend, and when will my first treatment be?” Nick asked.
“Well, now, I’d say you’d need radiation. What that does is we put you in a room with a bed-like table, and we shoot radiation in you. It’s not too hurtful, but can cause some side effects. I’ll discuss those with you when you go for your first treatment. That will be Saturday, since today’s Thursday. I’ll see you in the hospital on Saturday morning, all right?”
Nick just nodded. Shock was the first emotion he felt.
The cold January night air swept onto Nick as he walked to his car to drive back to his hotel. As he did so, Nick was trying to hold his tears back. He couldn’t believe it. What he thought was something simple had turned out to be cancer. “Oh why did this have to happen to me, why?” Nick thought.
He walked into the room, sat down on his bed and cried.
After he had been crying awhile, he wiped his tears away, and sighed. He needed to get some sleep.
At about 3 a.m., his cell phone rang. “Jeez, who’d been calling me at this hour?” He thought.
“Hello?” He answered sleepily.
“Oh damn, I forgot about the time difference again. Did I wake you up?” The voice was unmistakable. It was Kristin Miller, his girlfriend.
“It’s ok, Kristin. What have you been doing?”
“Just got in from work.” She paused. “So, did you find out was wrong with you?”
”Yeah, and you aren’t gonna like what it is.”
“Oh no, what?” Her voice was filled with concern.
“I have acute lympocytic leukemia.”
Silence from the other end. “Wow. When did you find out?”
“Just this evening. It’s really a shock to me.”
“Do Drew and the guys and your family know?”
Nick shook his head. “No, you’re the first one to know, Kristin.”
“Wow, I’m special!”
Nick couldn’t help but smile. It was so typical of her to try to make light of a situation. It was one of the million things he loved about her.
“Do you want me to come to Cincinnati?” Kristin asked.
“Yeah, I would really like you to. Can you try?”
“Hold on” Kristin’s phone clicked.
10 minutes later, she came back on. “I can come for 2 weeks then we’ll see if I can stay longer form there. Ok? Where do you want me to meet you?”
“You know where my mom’s house is, right?” Nick asked her.
“Yep, know it by heart. I’ll see you tomorrow, all right? So, get some sleep now, ok?”
“Ok, I will. Bye, baby.”
Nick hung the phone feeling so much better. Just knowing that Kristin was gonna be with him comforted him. “Now,” He thought “what I need to do is get some more sleep and I’ll tell the guys in the morning. Oh man, they are gonna be so pissed at me for me not being there yesterday.”
Nick did manage to drift of to sleep after that.

Here's Chapter 2 :) Hope y'all enjoy :)

~Chapter 2~
Nick dragged himself out of bed the next morning, even though he didn’t want to. He felt tired and emotionally drained, especially considering the news he’d been given to the night before. “But, the longer I avoid the guys, the longer I have to be in misery.”
Nick showered and dressed and went down to the lobby for the continental breakfast. He wasn’t really hungry, but he figured the others would probably be there.

Sure enough, he was right. They were sitting at a four-person table with an empty chair.
Nick slowly walked over to the table and sat down. “Morning guys” He said.
“Morning” Drew said.
Justin was looking at Nick with a serious expression. “Nick, where were you last night? You ditched us.”
“I had to take care of something” Nick said simply.
“Well, you could’ve told us” Jeff said crossly.
“Jeff, Justin, don’t lose your temper, it’s no big deal.” Drew told him.
Nick gave his little brother a thankful smile. Drew and Nick were really close, and they always had each others backs when the other was in trouble.

~On the tour bus~

“So, Nick, where exactly were you last night?” Jeff asked.
“I was at the doctor, and I didn’t like what he said.” Nick sighed, remembering Dr. Millerson giving him the news.
“Why, was what he told you really serious?” Drew asked.
Nick nodded sadly. “He told me I have acute lympocytic leukemia.”
All of them looked at Nick in surprise. “We’ve all noticed you not being yourself lately, but the problem being that serious?” Justin shook his head.
“I know” Nick sighed. “I didn’t either. I have to start radiation on Saturday, then it’ll be
Monday-Friday from 5 to 8 weeks to see what will happen”

He sat down on the back lounge couch, thinking, “Ok, I got the guys down, now I have to tell my mom and dad”
Nick let out a sigh. He was close with his parents Cate and John, and he knew that he would hurt them extremely bad. He was also close to the rest of his family and friends in Cincinnati.
“I need to go to mom’s house” He thought as Drew sat down next to him.
“I’m going to Mom’s house this morning, want to come?”
Nick nodded. “Yeah. I’m gonna tell Mom my news while there too”
“How do you think mom will take it?” Drew asked him.
Nick shrugged. “No idea, but we’ll see.”

~At their mom’s house~

Their mom was standing at the door, with a warm smile on her face. “Nick! Drew!” She said, while hugging each of them.
Nick smiled inwardly. He always loved being here. Cate was always so warm and welcoming that way.
As Nick and Cate walked into the familiar kitchen, Cate turned to him and asked, “Nick, is there something you want to talk to me about, because I’ve noticed you’ve been more stressed when I last talked to you”
Nick sighed. “Yes, actually I do. I went to the doctor last night and he said I had acute lymphocytic leukemia”
Cate looked at him with the biggest surprise. “You’re kidding. That is news. What treatment are you gonna be on?”
“Radiation, I first go on Saturday” Nick said in a flat voice. “Then, it’ll be Monday-Friday, for 5-8 weeks”
”Wow, this is a surprise. Aren’t you upset?”
Nick nodded. “Yeah, but I want to be strong try to live my life as normal, but that’s not gonna be possible because knowing our tour schedule, it ain’t gonna work”
“Have you guys discussed anything regarding that?” Cate asked him.
Nick shook his head. “Nope, not at all. I [arse]ume we will soon, though”

~Later in the day~

Nick looked at his watch. It was 10:25pm, and Kristin wasn’t here yet and he was worried if she ever would come. “But she said she would” Nick re[arse]ured himself.
Just then, a woman of 24 stumbled in the door with a pile of suitcases. She was pretty with dark blonde hair and blue eyes and tall and skinny. She could be a model if she wanted to, but the woman had no interest what so ever.
The suitcases collapsed on her and in an embarr[arse]ed voice she said, “I’m here y’all”
Nick laughed at his girlfriend. “What have you got in there, Leigh, anvils?”
“Ha ha, Nick, just get me out of this mess.”
Nick obeyed and helped Kristin up as she brushed herself off.
“Where have you been all day?” Nick asked her.
“I didn’t get out of L.A. till 4:30, and then it delayed getting in the airport 15 minutes and it was stressful”
“I love you, Kristin Leigh Miller” Nick kissed her check.
“I love you, too”

They sat on the swing on Cate’s front porch and Kristin turned to Nick. “Nick, do you think you’re ready for what’s to come with your treatment and your health?”
Nick sighed. “I think so. I’m really scared about a lot of things though.”
“Like what?” Kristin asked.
“That my treatment won’t work, I might die and… losing you”
Kristin touched Nick’s cheek. “I would never leave you Nick, what makes you so scared that I might leave you?”
Nick shrugged. “Just because we live on opposite sides of the coast and that you might tempt yourself with another guy.”
Kristin raised her eyebrows. “I never would, never at all”
The couple leaned in and then shared a sweet kiss.

Saturday came and went. Nick was told that what he was feeling on Saturday wasn’t anything compared to what was gonna take place on Monday. Since it wasn’t very pleasant, Nick thought, “If this isn’t too bad, then I can’t imagine what pain I’ll be in for later”

He was laying in his hospital bed on that night trying to calm himself of all his fears that he was experiencing. “I don’t really want to do this” He thought sadly.
Just then, John, his father came in. “How you feeling, son?” He asked.
“All right” Nick replied “Just a little on the nervous side”
“I don’t blame you, this must be scary time. Has Dr. Millerson talked to you about what to expect or anything like that?
Nick shook his head. “No, not yet” He sighed.
“Nick, you remember the first you were admitted into a hospital?”
Nick thought for a second. He then smiled. “I was 5 years old and I need my tonsils out”
“Do you remember what your mother told you right before the operation?” John asked him.
Nick nodded. “Yeah. Just go to sleep and it’ll all be over when you wake up’. If only it were the same thing now.” He paused. “I’m still really scared though, Dad”
“Why, son?”
Nick sighed. “That this treatment won’t work and I might die because of this”
“Nick, look” John said “This is a hard time, but just remember, you got the best doctors trying their best and they know what their doing.” He paused and went on “And you got the best emotional support. You got me, your mom, Drew, Jeff, Justin, Josie, Kris and the rest of your family, so you got a lot of support around you. Just remember that.”
Nick nodded. “I will, Dad”
After a hug goodnight and Dr Millerson had gotten in and talked to Nick about the treatment, he felt so much more relaxed. He knew that he had the support of a strong family and a strong sense of self, so he would make through this, someway or other.
All that really mattered was he had his family and friends.

Here's Chapter 3

~Chapter 3~

Nick woke up the next morning feeling really tired and nervous. “Today’s my first treatment” He thought, “Oh well, they always say, the first one’s the hardest”
Dr. Millerson then came in with a smile. “Ready for the first one, Nick?”
Nick nodded. “I think so, I’m just nervous”
“Don’t worry” Dr. Millerson said. “The first is the hardest”

All Nick remembered of the treatment was laying on a bed of some kind and it being very fast going.

He woke up feeling extremely dizzy and nauseated. “That was fun” He thought. “Now only 15 million more to go until I’m done for”
Just then Drew and their other 98 degrees band mates, Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre, entered the room. “Feeling all right, bro?” Drew asked.
Nick nodded. “Just a little nauseated and dizzy”
“Wasn’t that fun? Now, you have to do it 82 million more times” Jeff teased.
Nick rolled his eyes “Don’t rub it in, Sugar”
That caused a lot of laughs and little nudges. “What? I never call Kristin that”
“Oh yeah, and what do you call her?” Justin asked.
“None of your business” Nick shot back. Nick had some pet names for Kristin that he’d never admit to anyone that he called her them.
There was more laughter and then Drew said “What in the heck are we gonna do about our careers?”
Silence fell over the room and Jeff said “The only thing I can think of is breaking up or going on hiatus, which do you guys want to do?”
Each of the men in the room said “Hiatus”
“Then it’s agreed”
Then the conversation moved on to lighter things, more things guys like to talk about.

Later that morning, Nick was released and the four guys decided to go explore around Cincinnati and hit some their favorite places to hang out.
First stop was a park near downtown. They chased each other around with a game of football and once when Jeff was running, Drew tackled him and wrestled him to the ground. “Oh my god” Jeff said. “I got wrestled down by Shorty”
“Hey” Drew said “DON’T call me Shorty”
As this occurred, Nick and Justin were laughing their butts off at them.
“What’s so funny?” Jeff asked, clueless.
“You’re just so funny, Jeff” Justin told him.
Jeff shrugged his shoulders “I’ll take your word for it”
Nick shook his head. “This is the life” He thought “Goofing of with my friends and having a good time, I love this”

Coming back to the house, Nick refreshed himself by talking a shower, and then took a slight nap.

After waking up, he wondered what his girlfriend was doing, when Kristin entered the room, dressed in a white long-sleeved shirt and gray sweats. He smiled inwardly at how sexy she looked to him.
“Hey, Kaleigh” Nick said.
Kristin looked at him “You haven’t called me that in awhile. How are you feeling?”
Nick shrugged. “All right, just a little tired.”
Nick sat up in bed and Kristin sat next to him. “Did you have fun with the boys today?”
Nick nodded. “We had fun, and had some laughs” Nick paused “so, how’s thing’s in L.A.?”
“All right, my job’s cool, and my friends are doing good.”
“What about your mom?” Nick asked.
Kristin got a sad look on her face “Ok, I guess. She just annoys the [crap] out of me” she looked around the room.
Kristin and her mother never got along. Absolutely NEVER. As a child, Kristin had been brutally beaten by her but was ordered never to tell her father, or she would suffer dire consequences. Her parents had divorced when Kristin was 10 and she didn’t blame her father for leaving. Her mom was a [nice person] with a capital B.
Kristin then went on 4 years without her father, until her freshman year in high school.
That’s when she met Nick. He’d convinced her to leave her mother and live with her father, which she did.
Of course, her mother still felt as if she needed to dominate Kristin’s life and make it miserable. Kristin had thought of moving, but knew it was no good.
“I absolutely hate her, Nick. I don’t see why she wants to rule my life when I’m perfectly capable of living my own life, and I’d prefer it, honestly.”
“Do you think talking to your dad will help any?” Nick asked her.
She shook her head. “As far as Dad’s concerned, she’s history, they are no more. He told me he’d never want to be in the same room as her ever again. So, theirs no way Dad would speak to her, even if it was to protect me”
“What about your little brother?”
Kristin made a stuck up noise. “He loves her and he’d never EVER do that. He and I never got along. So, I guess you could say I never really had a loving family growing up, except my dad.”
“Don’t worry about that mom of yours. Even though you don’t get along, she wouldn’t hurt you”
“I dunno about that one, Nick” Kristin looked around. “She’s got potential, with all the [nice person]iness about her.” She paused. “But who am I kidding? I don’t need to worry about that. I got my friends and you”
Nick smiled “Yes you do” and they began to kiss.

Laying in bed later, Nick began to think. He felt lucky. He was lucky. Even though he was faced with dealing with a life threatening disease, he had his family, all of his friends, and Kristin. He was especially considered himself lucky compared to Kristin’s life. He knew that if something like this happened to her, she wouldn’t get that love since her family didn’t love her very much, according to her. He didn’t get why she had to deal with this, but he knew she’d find someway around all of her troubles. She knew how to laugh when times were tough, and also when to cry. A perfect balance, according to Nick. He loved her and nothing would change that. “She’s my angel, I don’t’ know what I’d do without her”
Nick then drifted of to sleep, peaceful things on his mind.

~~Chapter 4~

Radiation treatment went on and it seemed to help Nick. He felt a slight bit sick after the treatments, but it was nothing to him. He just wanted to beat the disease and get healthy again.

Kristin was to go back to Los Angles today and he didn’t want her to. Having her there the last few weeks had a very calming effect on him, made everything feel better.

They were at the airport that day and they were standing there together and Nick wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her cheek. “I love you Leigh” He whispered.
“I love you, too” she aid
“I love you back”
Kristin looked in his eyes. “I promise I’ll be back as soon as I can, ok?”
Nick nodded and they kissed.

As he watched her leave, he realized how fortunate he was to have a girl like her. They were a perfect couple and it showed. She and him gave each other something to live for and it was perfect. “I’ll never let go of this” He thought.

Back at his mom’s house, Nick and Cate were sitting in the kitchen and Cate asked him “so, Nick you feel any better since they’ve started treatment?”
Nick just shrugged. “I don’t feel any difference. I mean, I know these treatments are to help me, but before I didn’t really feel that bad. I just figured I’d have a doctor check it out, just to be sure”
“Aren’t you glad you did though?” Cate asked him.
Nick nodded. “I guess. I miss our careers though.”
“Hey, just be glad you didn’t ignore to it and you’d worked yourself to death, literally”
Nick rolled his eyes. “I know, Mom, I know. I’m glad I did. I just want it to be over with, though”
He got up and walked to his room and sat down on his bed. “When will this be over?” He thought.

~A week later~

Nick had been on treatment 4 weeks and it looked like it would be going on for at least another two. It was beginning to be a frustration for him. Having to go in and do this every day was getting really old and getting on his nerves. It seemed like now that it wasn’t working as effectively as it had before, and that frustrated Nick.

He was sitting in his room and he was feeling rather frustrated and upset. Then he felt them coming. The tears he’d been holding back for so long. They couldn’t stay back now.
He just began to cry and let it all out.

He’d been crying for awhile, when he heard a knock on his door. “Nick, sweetie, you ok?”
“Come in, Mom” He whispered.
Cate came in and sat down next to him. “What’s wrong, sweetie?”
“It’s just that, I’m really getting frustrated and upset with going on my treatments. It feels like they aren’t working as well, and that angers me. I’m getting sick of doing this all the time, when it seems like it ain’t gonna be worth it
Cate rubbed his back. “I can see why, it’s getting to us, too Nick. But, you want to get better, don’t you?”
Nick nodded.
“Then, we’ll just have to see what happens. I know that you don’t like going to these treatments, but, in life we sometimes have to do things that aren’t our favorite thing to do, you know?”
“I know Mom I’ve just got so much stirring up in me, I just don’t wanna go anymore”
Cate and Nick embraced and Cate said “Don’t worry Nick, just believe and we’ll try to get through this
“Ok” Nick whispered. “I love you, Mom”
“I love you, too Nick”

That night, Drew, Nick, John, Josie, Jeff, and Justin were all hanging in the living room of John’s house.
“Well” John said “I have met another woman.”
Josie raised her eyebrow. “Oh? And who is she?”
“A nice lady who works near my work. She’s about my age with a very friendly personality.” John turned to Nick and Drew “Do you guys mind if I date this lady?”
“Dad, it’s your life, you should live it like you want to, it really doesn’t matter what we think about it.”
“I know it doesn’t but, I just thought you guys might have a problem with it since it’s been so long since I’ve been with anyone”
“Do you think Cate will agree with it?” Jeff asked John.
John sighed “That’s what I’m really worried about. She doesn’t like me or anyone I date.
I’m afraid she’ll lash out against me and Cyndi.”
“Don’t worry, if she does, I’ll talk to her” Drew told John.
John smiled “Thanks, Drew” Nick was thinking that his mom wouldn’t be mean to his dad’s new date. They’d divorced a long time ago, but from what Nick remembered, it was a messy divorce. Drew didn’t remember any of it, since he was only a baby, but Nick did.

~A week later~

Another week gone by and Nick was just about at the end of his rope. He’d had enough of all this treatment, all this radiation, and all this medical stuff. He’d done this way too many times and he was about ready to quit. He didn’t necessarily want to die, but he just wanted the treatment to end.

The only thing that kept him going was his family and the guys. They gave him stability and a reason to put with everything. But, Kristin had been MIA for the past two weeks and he was beginning to worry about her.

He was on the internet and he noticed that Kristin was on. He and Kristin rarely talked on the internet when they were apart, but we decided that he’d IM her anyway.

NSL1973: Hey Leigh

Cali_Chick77: oh, hey nick

NSL1973: You don’t seem very happy to talk to me, you feeling ok?

Cali_Chick77: No, everything is pretty much [crap] right now.

NSL1973: Why haven’t you called me, you know you can talk to me.

Cali_Chick77: You have enough to deal with, you don’t need to know all the drama that been going on here.

NSL1973: Yes I do. I’m really worried about you.

Cali_Chick77: You don’t need to Nick, I’m fine

With that, Kristin logged off.

Nick was really surprised. Kristin almost never acted like this. Sure, she’d some times say she was fine, but then confess later, but this wasn’t like her. Nick decided he was gonna use his weekend to fly to L.A. to see if she was ok .

When he flew his idea by Drew, he was supportive of it. “Kris has been out for the past few weeks. I would do it too if my girlfriend were acing like this.”
“I dunno why she’d be doing this, but I hope to find out. I miss her and I need her support right now.”
“Hopefully, she’ll appreciate what you’re doing.” Drew said.
Nick sighed. “I hope so, too, Drew”

Here's Chapter 5

~Chapter 5~

After his treatment that morning, Nick boarded a plane to L.A., keeping his fingers crossed that Kristin would accept to see him.

He arrived to his hotel room, with a slight bit of jet lag, but it wore off in about an hour with a relaxing shower and a little nap.

At about 6:00, Nick decided to head over to Kristin’s apartment. As he drove there, the nervousness was extremely obvious. He wanted to see Kristin and he was hoping she appreciated his efforts to see her and see if she was ok.
Nick sighed, getting out of his car, and shut the door. He walked into the apartment building with his footsteps feeling heavy as he walked.
Finally, he arrived to Kristin’s door. He knocked, heaving a heavy sigh.
Kristin answered, looking really tired, dressed in a tank top and shorts, with a her blonde hair slightly messy and only a slight bit of make up on.
“Nick” she said in surprised tone. “Come in”
Nick stepped inside and Kristin asked him “What are you doing here?”
“I was getting extremely worried about you and I didn’t like the tone you showed on the internet, I just had to come and see if you were ok”
Kristin sighed. “I really didn’t want you to worry about me but if you’re ready to listen I’ll tell you everything that’s being going on”
Nick sat down on the couch and Kristin sat next to him. “First, I want to let you know there’s another guy in my life”
Nick raised an eyebrow, but before he could say a word Kristin continued. “But I’m not cheating on you with him”
Nick was confused. “Then why is he in your life?”
Kristin looked down at the floor. “Because… he thinks we’re going out but we’re not. He’s extremely interested in me and he won’t leave me alone.”
“Have you told him that you already have a boyfriend?”
Kristin nodded, unable to look in Nick’s eyes. “Yeah, but he ignores that fact.” She paused. “You aren’t mad at me, are you?”
Nick shook his head, and put a hand on Kristin’s face. “Not at all, Leigh, but I can sense that there’s more bothering you”
“A ton more” Kristin looked down on the floor. “All my friends have turned their backs on me because my worst enemy has spread a [freak]ing rumor that isn’t true” She paused. “And my mom has made death threats to me”
“Death threats?” Nick asked. “Why?”
Kristin shrugged, tears filling up in her eyes. “She thinks she has the control power over me. She told me if I put one toe out of line in front of her and I can guarantee you I’ll be dead.” Tears were flowing freely now.
“But why would she want to do that you, her own daughter?”
Kristin just shrugged.
It was apparent Kristin didn’t want to talk anymore, so Nick just wrapped his arms around her.
They laid there together like that for what seemed like days. They were enjoying their quality time, because who knew when they would see each other again.
Then, Nick came up with a good idea. “Hey Kaleigh”
Kristin, who’d almost fallen asleep answered with a “hmm?”
“What would you think of coming back Cincinnati with me? You know, we can be together and you’ll be able to escape your problems for awhile”
“Well… now that you mention it… the idea sounds extremely appealing.” Kristin looked in Nick’s eyes. “Your mom wouldn’t mind having an extra houseguest, would she?”
Nick shook his head. “No way, Mom loves you. She’d love the idea of having you live with us for awhile”
They got comfortable again and Kristin said “Thanks for coming out Nick. I’m touched that you would come out like this.”
Nick smiled. “I had to”
“When are you going back?”
Nick thought for a minute. “Tomorrow afternoon, actually”
With the moonlight shining out the window behind them, Nick could see Kristin yawning. “I’m tired, let’s go to sleep”
So, they curled up closer and they fell asleep in each other’s arms, thankful that they had each other.

~The next morning~

Nick woke up feeling great. He had his girlfriend back, and she was gonna come back with him. He looked down at her sleeping form. “She looks so beautiful, even if it’s only 7:00 in the morning”
Kristin stirred a slight bit, and then opened her eyes. “Hey Nick”
“Hey Leigh, did you sleep ok last night?”
Kristin nodded “Yeah, especially since you were here with me” She sighed.

They got up and made some breakfast for themselves. As they were finishing up, Kristin’s phone began to ring. She picked it up and answered “Hello?”
Whoever was on the other end, Kristin was surprised to hear their voice. She talked to the person for a minute and hung up.
“Who was that?” Nick asked.
“My dad” Kristin said “He wants to see me. But don’t worry, he’s a nice guy” she added seeing the concern in Nick’s eyes. “Nothing like my [nice person] of a mom”

~2 hours later~

Nick was back over and the door had knocked.
A nice looking man stood there. He looked to be in his early 40s with friendly brown eyes and brown hair.
Kristin walked up to him “Daddy!”
“Hey Sunshine Blondie, how are you?”
Kristin was blushing, but she said “Just fine”
Kristin turned to Nick “Oh, Daddy, this is my wonderful boyfriend, Nick Lachey. Nick, this is my daddy, Ryan Miller”
“How you doing, sir?” Nick asked as he shook his hand.
“Just fine, Nick. I’ve heard good things about you”

They hung out till Nick and Kristin had to catch their flight. Nick could see why Kristin and her dad were so close. They always seemed like they were having fun together and loved to tease each other. Nick couldn’t see why someone like him could marry someone as [nice person]y as Kristin’s mom

On the plane, Nick and Kristin were holding hands and Kristin was looking out the window. Her eyes looked sad and distant.
“What’s wrong, Leigh?” Nick asked her.
“Nothing” Kristin said. “I’m just worried that my problems will follow me back Cincinnati”
“Don’t worry” Nick said. “Just try not to think about them, and they won’t.”
Kristin smiled. “Thanks, Nick”
They gave each other a quick kiss, and went back to sitting in silence, holding hands.

Since boredom has gotten the best of me, I am going to post several chapteres of some of my old sotries for y'all to read if you wold like. I'll start with this one.

~Chapter 6~

They got off the plane at the Cincinnati airport and went to get their luggage.

As they walked to the front gate, Kristin asked him “How are we gonna get to your mom’s house, Nick?”
“Don’t worry, I parked my car in the long-term car holding garage. It’s not that long a walk.”
“Good, cause my legs are about collapse from under me.”
Nick smiled and shook his head at his girlfriend.

As they got to the house, Kristin got a little quiet. “What’s the matter, Leigh?” Nick asked her.
“Nothing” She said.
They walked into the house, and noticed Drew in the living room. “So, I guess your little plan worked.” Drew said.
Nick smiled. “Yep. Kristin’s gonna live with us for awhile”
Drew smiled. “That’s cool. Needed a break form L.A., huh, Blondie?”
Kristin usually didn’t like Drew calling her that, but she let it slide this time. “Yeah, I did.”
She headed off to the guest room.

“Is Mom home?” Nick asked.
Drew shook his head. “No… said she had to do some errands. Why?”
“I just hope she’ll agree with having Kris live with us for awhile.”
“Why wouldn’t she?” Drew asked. “She treats her as her own daughter. I really don’t see why not.”
Nick nodded “True… but I dunno.”

30 minutes later, Cate walked in the door. “Nick” she said. “You’re home. You got a treatment to go to, you know that?”
Nick rolled his eyes. “I know, I’ve just been on 2 flights in 2 days and I need to rest before I go back.”
Cate looked at him, confused. “You didn’t tell me you were flying anywhere.”
“Well, I went to L.A. and back to check on Kristin because I was concerned about her and she’s here to live with us for awhile. Is that ok?”
Cate smiled. “That’s perfectly fine. Where is she?”
“In the guest room, but I think she’d like to be alone right now.”
“Ok. Now, you get ready for your treatment”
Nick groaned and rolled his eyes but headed off to his room to get ready.
“Mom, give him a break” Drew said. “He’s had to do this every weekday for a long time. I’m sure he’s getting sick of you nagging him to get ready for it.”
“I know, Andrew, but he needs it. I’m worried he’s not taking care of himself like he should. I don’t want him to be unhealthy in other aspects, even though he has cancer.”
Drew didn’t say anything else, just looked out the window.

At 7:30pm, Nick was ready to go to his treatment. His mom went through the annual checklist, and Nick said yes to all of them, since he knew the list by heart and it was getting old to hear it over and over again.

The night before and the next treatment flew by. However, when Dr. Millerson came in to give him the annual progress report, his face was really grim.
“What’s wrong, Dr. Millerson?” Nick asked.
“Well, Nick I have some bad news for you. The treatment is no longer working for you. So, we’re gonna take you off the radiation.”
Nick got scared. “What will happen next?”
“Well, we can perform bone marrow transplant. That’s the best thing for you, I think.”
“How do you found a donor?”
“Well, we’ll test your whoever’s willing to do it in your family, then if that won’t work, we’ll go to a national bone marrow donating service and they’ll put you on a waiting list.”
Nick sighed. “Ok, I’m willing to do that.”
“I have to warn you about some things though”
“Ok”
“This won’t cure you or send you into remission. It’ll just give you a little bit more time to live.”
“Doesn’t bone marrow transplants usually do just that?”
“Usually, but you’re extremely sick, so it won’t do that for you, I’m sorry to say” He paused. “I’m gonna go explain this to your family, and we’ll decide who’s willing to test to be your bone marrow donor”
Nick nodded. “Ok”

1 ½ hours later, Drew came in. “Hey big bro” He said. “How you feeling?”
“Hey little bro” Nick said. “I’m feeling ok, just upset, I guess.”
“Well, you have a donor” Drew told him.
“Who?” Nick asked him.
“Me” Drew answered.
Nick raised his eyebrows. “You sure you want to do this?”
“Well, Dr. Millerson said I’m the best donor, since we matched the best, and you’re my brother, we’ll do anything for each other, and this is my example of that. I’ll do anything to keep you alive, Nick.”
Nick smiled. “Thanks, Drew. This’ll mean more than you’ll ever know”
The brothers embraced.

Then, Nick asked “So, when is this gonna take place?”
“Thursday morning” Drew answered. “We’ll need to go in Wednesday night for some pre-work and stuff. In the meantime, Dr. Millerson will let you go home.”
“Great” Nick said. “I want to have at least a few days where I can just… stay home and not have to go to treatment.”
“Well” Drew said “You definitely will.”
Then, Nick asked “How has Leigh reacted to this?”
Drew shrugged. “I have no idea what she’s feeling right now. She was just quiet the whole time we were talking with Dr. Millerson. She seems like she has a lot on her mind.”
“She definitely does”
Then Dr. Millerson came in and said “ Nick, I just need you sign some things and you’ll be out of here till Wednesday night.”

Finally, Nick was able to go home and everyone went there. John suggested the have a big cookout with steak and hamburgers, potato salad, and lots of other stuff. Nick and Drew helped John with the grilling, and Kristin and Cate stayed inside and made the other stuff.

At 5:45, everyone sat to eat and after Kristin took a bite of steak, she said “Wow, John, this steak is excellent. I generally don’t eat steak, but this is great.”
“Thanks, Kristin. I use a special sauce for it, but the recipe’s a secret”
“Dad will never tell us.” Nick said. “Till the day he dies.”
Everyone laughed, because John would always say that.

After dinner, Nick and Kristin sat on the porch swing and Nick asked her “So, Leigh, how do you like living here?”
“It’s great.” Kristin said “Its so much better here, and I can just forget what’s happening at home.”
“What do you think of that I have to have a bone marrow transplant?”
Kristin sighed. “I’m upset, but mainly I’m trying to be positive about it, because I know there’s a major possibility that you’ll live through all of this. You should think like that too. Just don’t concentrate on the negative aspect for right now. You should be thankful that Drew is doing this for you”
“Don’t worry Leigh, I definitely am thankful for him doing this.”
Kristin nodded. “Good”
Nick smiled as he looked down at his girlfriend
“I love you, Leigh” Nick whispered.
“I love you, too”
They then kissed.

~Chapter 7~

Nick thoroughly enjoyed the time he had at home before his transplant. It felt good to know that he didn’t have to go to the hospital everyday for awhile. He hung out with the guys and his family, and spent quality time with Kristin.

The couple was sitting on the front porch swing and Nick said “I am so nervous, Leigh”
“What for?”
“About what will happen and if this will work. I have this fear in the back of my mind that it won’t for some reason.”
“What are you talking about, sure it will. And if it don’t? It’ll forever strengthen your brotherly bond with Drew”
Nick nodded “You’re right…. But I just hope this’ll work. I wanna live as long as I can. And I hope this’ll buy me more time on this earth.”
Kristin smiled. “It will. Just think positive, Nick.”
Nick nodded. “Ok, babe.
Then, they decided to go in the house and get ready to go to bed.

25 minutes later, Nick was in his bed, when Kristin came in his room. She sat down next to him and said “Well Nick, I hope you can get enough sleep tonight. You got a tough day ahead of you”
Nick nodded. “Don’t worry about me, Leigh, I will. Good night”
“Good night” They kissed and Kristin went to her room.

The next few days flew by. Nick got his transplant and the prognosis seemed ok. But things wouldn’t be official till Dr. Millerson told everyone what he thought.

Nick was laying on his bed when Dr. Millerson came in. “Hey, Nick how we doing today?”
“OK” Nick said. What brings you here?”
“I have the official prognosis for you. You ready to hear what it is?”
Nick nodded. “Yep.”
“Well, it looks like you’ll be able to live for a little longer now.”
“And how long is that?” Nick asked him.
“At the most, 2 months. The transplant has bought you more time on this earth, but you still aren’t going to live that much longer. If you didn’t get the transplant, however, you would’ve died within 2 weeks. So, you should consider yourself lucky”
“What will happen now?”
“You’ll go home and have a normal life” Dr. Millerson said “But when the symptoms that we already talked about come up, bring yourself to the hospital and you’ll probably spend your last days there. And as I said before, this’ll probably happen within the next 2 months”
Nick nodded. “Sounds good”
“Do you have any questions or anything?”
Nick shook his head.
“OK” Dr. Millerson said “I’ll go explain this to your family and then we’ll let people see you, ok?”
“ok”

About 2 hours later, Cate came in and sat down. “How you feeling, honey?”
“Ok, I guess” Nick said. “Just a little tired. How about you?”
“All right. I’m just a little shocked at what Dr. Millerson told us.”
“Why do you say that?”
“I was surprised about him telling us that you could’ve died within 2 weeks if you didn’t get the transplant. I didn’t think it would be that bad.”
“Neither did I, Mom” Nick told her. “But I’m ready to go home and just live normally and know that I didn’t live for the rest of my life in pain”
Cate nodded “I don’t want you to be in pain, either.” She stroked his hand.
“How’s Leigh reacting?”
“I could tell she was relieved, but she mentioned something to me about going back to Los Angles.”
Nick sighed “Did she say when?”
“Two to three days.”
Kristin walked in, talking on her cell phone. “Look, I got to go.” She was telling the person on the other line. “I’ll deal with your freakin attitude later” She hung up.
“Who was that?” Cate asked her.
Kristin rolled her eyes. “My mom. She says I have to come back to L.A., to see her, but I know she’ll just give me more [crap] and lies.” She sighed. “I’m so sick of her threatening me every second.”
She sat down in the seat next to Nick’s bed and Nick wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
Cate left and Nick asked her “so do you want to go back to L.A.?”
Kristin shook her head. “Not at all, because I want to spend more time with you, but I have to. I’ve learned that when my mom tells you to do something, you obey it immediately.” She got out her planner. I gotta leave in two days at 6:00 am. So, I’ll still be here tomorrow.”
“Ok” Nick said “Why does your mom feel that she has to control your life in a sense?”
Kristin sighed. “I don’t know, but I don’t ask because she tells me if I ask extremely personal questions, she’ll put a gun to my head. I’m not kidding”
Nick raised his eyebrows. “She is so [freak]ing brutal”
“Tell me about” Kristin said. “I don’t want to see her, as I said a second ago, but still…” she sighed. “It’s just my luck that I get her as a mother. I wish I got someone different but…” Tears formed in her eyes. “I have to live with it.”
“You definitely don’t deserve this, Leigh” Nick told her. “You can’t pick your family, but you can pick your friends. And you know I’m here to talk to if she gets too tough on you, right?”
Kristin nodded “Right”
Nick hugged her and placed a kiss on her check. “I love you, Leigh”
“I love you too, Nick”
