Alright, this is a story Kris & I are writing, nobody else loves us (or maybe just the story) hehe. Anyways, we haven't posted it here, so...now we are. :) Hope you likes!

Chapter One is by Kris

This a Nick and Jessica story Jess and I are writing together. I'm going to be writing Nick's side and Jess will be wrting Jessica's side. Here's a summary:

Jessica is an exchange student form England. She has been chosen to live with Nick's family. Something in her past has caused her to be really secretive when it comes to herself. But privately, she starts to fall in love with Nick.
Nick's parents are close to being divorced. As he spends more time with Jess, he can keep his mind off of that. He also starts to fall in love. will they ever reveal their love for each other?

~Unexpected~

It was a blazing August afternoon. Most people would be either at the pool, cooling off, hanging out with friends or enjoying the time. Not Nick Lachey. He was waiting at the airport for someone he didn’t even know.

His mom, Cate had always been interested in hosting an exchange student. She thought it would be interesting to have someone from another country around the house so they could learn about other countries and cultures.
So she had applied about 6 months ago, and they had been matched to a student. Surprisingly, it was a girl. You would think the program would have picked a guy since it was Cate, his dad, John, Drew, his younger brother, and Nick living together. But that was whom the program had matched up them up with. All Nick knew about her was that her name was Jessica Simpson, she was 18, like him and she was from England.

Nick didn’t really know what to think of this. On the one hand, it could be really disastrous. She might think that he was the biggest jerk she had ever met, and not talk to him. She might not like the rest of the family. She migh6t hate it in America and will immediately want to go home. On the other hand, it could be a good thing. He could make a new friend in her. So good of a friend that they might start… dating. “Keep dreaming, Lachey” He told himself.
That was another thing. He had absolutely no idea what she looked like. Would she be really pretty or more of a plain Jane? There was only one way to find out.

He looked over at his parents, Cate and John. They had been married for 20 years, and up until a few months ago, had the perfect marriage. They were supportive of each other and their kids. They also kept the romantic bond between them alive. But now it seemed like every time they came in contact with each other, they would either fight or completely ignore each other. John seemed to be on the verge of moving out. Nick was surprised he hadn’t already. He wished he knew what was causing all this, but both of his parents were tightlipped. However, today they had decided to keep it all smiles for Jessica. Nick felt really bad for her. She was coming into what was becoming a really bad situation. Hopefully her being her wouldn’t add fuel to the fire between Cate and John.

An announcement came on the intercom. “British Airways Flight 72488 from London has now landed. We are sorry for the delay. P[arse]engers will be unloading in a few minutes”
“It’s about time, the plane is a half hour late” Nick thought.
A few minutes later, they saw the glow of p[arse]engers coming out. Cate looked down at the information she had, and waved to one of them.
A young woman walked over to them. She had a cute and petite figure. Her long, straight blond hair was pulled back in to a ponytail. Her brown eyes were curious but they also said she had been through a lot of things in her life already.
“Wow, she’s beautiful” Nick thought. “She’s living with us for a year?”
“Are you all my host family?” She had a thick British accent, but it suited her perfectly.
“If your name is Jessica Simpson, then yes we are,” Cate said smiling and laughing.
“That’s me. It’s so good to meet you. I have been looking forward to this! I’m sorry I was late!”
Cate hugged her. “Awww honey, don’t worry about something you had no control over! I’m Cate Lachey and this is my husband, John”
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Lachey”
“Like wise, Ms. Jessica. But please, call us by our first names.” They hugged. “And these are our sons, Nick and Drew”
“Hi Drew, how are you?” She gave him a hug. “
”I’m good. It’s really nice to meet you”
“Some to you. Hi Nick” They hugged.
“Hi. I’m glad you’re staying with us”
“So am I”
The family went to get Jessica’s bags.

After those were collected, Cate asked her “What do you want to do now?”
“Even though I gained some hours on the flight, I’m really tired. Can we just go back to your house?”
“Absolutely we can.”
Just from knowing Jessica a few minutes, Nick already had a good impression of her. She was really friendly but also soft-spoken. He wondered if something made her that way. He had a feeling he was going to like having her around the house. This was definitely going to be an interesting year.

Chapter 2

As Jessica walked out of the airport with her new host family she took in all of her surroundings. She’d never been to America before but of course had heard all about it. They walked through the parking lot and stopped reaching the car. John had carried two of her huge roll on suitcases, as had Nick and Drew. Cate and she both carried one plus Jessica’s carry on bag which was secured tightly around her shoulder.

“You don’t happen to travel light do you?” She looked over to the owner of that voice and saw it was Nick. She smiled finding it kind of cute in a funny way, but Cate, didn’t think the same and smacked him over the back of the head.

“Nick…she†„¢s here for a year, give her a break.” Drew was laughing and they loaded the back of the car. “Now Drew and Nick, don’t make her sit in the middle of you two, we don’t want her begging to be going home already.” Jessica giggled a little and sat behind the p[arse]engers seat, Nick behind the driver’s seat and Drew in the middle.

“Why do I always have to be in the middle?” He whined.

“Oh Drew shut it.” Nick said looking out the window.

“Nick, leave your brother alone.” Jessica observed the family and could tell, Drew, was the ‘mama’s boy.’

“So Jessica, do you have any siblings?” She looked up as John spoke to her.

“Actually, yes a sister; Ashlee.” John nodded.

“How old is she?”

“She’ll be the age of fourteen in October.” Jessica blushed after saying that sentence because of the snickers and laughs from Drew. She turned and Nick noticing the blush in her cheeks slapped him.

“Drew, just because Jessica is in America doesn’t mean she’s going to adapt the first 30 minutes she’s here, now stop it.” John said firmly.

“John, there’s no need to yell at him, he’s not used to it, I’m sure he didn’t mean to offend Jessica.” Cate defended her ‘baby boy.’ Nick rolled his eyes then squeezed them shut hoping another fight wouldn’t be happening. ‘Just let it p[arse].’ He thought.

“He shouldn’t be rude Cate, we have a guest and it’s very different for her here, and I’m sure she’s very nervous. Now quit babying Drew around. He should be apologizing.” His voice rising a bit, Cate looked at him, anger in her eyes.

“I am not babying him John!” She screamed. Jessica looked out the window pretending not to be in tune to the fight escalating. After screaming the entire drive to their house they pulling into the driveway and everyone helped Jessica unload his bags.

“C’mon guys, let’s show Jessica her new room.” One by one, Jessica in the back, they all walked up the stairs and led her to her new room. It was very nice, not nearly as small as her bedroom back home that was a small room she had then. The bed was nicely made, a long dresser against one wall, two windows, a tele and closet. Not too much, but she didn’t need much. They all placed her bags by the bed.

“We’ll let you rest and unpack, there’s plenty of room for clothes in the empty dresser here and then you’ve got a walk in closet here.” Cate walked around the room pointing everything out. She stood just outside the bedroom and looked out in the hall. Jessica followed and watched as she pointed. “This here is Nick’s room,” She pointed to the room directly across from her own. “Drew’s room is the door at the end of the hall on the right,” Again, she pointed to the room way at the end of the hall. “You and Nick have to share a bathroom, I hope you don’t mind, it’s this door right there.” She pointed to the door next to Nick’s room. “Our bedroom is on the first floor.” She said referring to her and John, Jessica nodded trying to take everything in. “If there’s anything you need, we’ll be downstairs in the living room.” Again, Jessica nodded.

“Thank you so much.” Jessica said once Cate had finished talking.

“You’re welcome dear. I know your clock must be screwed up with the time difference and all. Dinner will be ready in an hour or so. So try and rest up till then. C’mon boys…and John.” She emphasized John’s name. “Let’s leave Jessica to rest.” They all said bye, and said their ‘welcome, glad you’re here’ once more before Nick was the last to leave, shutting the door. She lay down and thought about everything, it was all so overwhelming. She didn’t know how to take it all in yet. She knew though, this was going to be a positive experience…well she prayed it would, she needed one after everything she’d gone through last year.

~Chapter 3~

“This is disastrous” Nick thought. “Jessica hasn’t been here an hour and already Mom and Dad are fighting. Hopefully this hasn’t left a bad impression on her.”
Cate was preparing dinner. “So, what do you think of Jessica so far?” She asked him.
“Mom! I haven’t known her that long! She’s very friendly…. And very pretty”
“You have a crush on her already?” Drew asked in a teasing tone.
“No, I don’t” Nick said, giving his brother a glare. He actually was, but it was nothing very strong yet.
“I was just wondering, since you weren’t so hot on this idea in the first place,” Cate said.
“It’ll be great, I’m sure. I think she may have gotten a bad impression of us already” Nick said.
She raised her eyebrows. “Why do you say that?”
“The way you and Dad were arguing in the car.”
“Don’t worry about that, honey. It was just one of those married couple arguments”
“Yeah right” He thought. Nick knew better. It wasn’t like they had tried to hide the constant fighting from him and Drew. He didn’t respond. The boys went to watch TV with John until dinner was ready.
Nick went up to Jessica’s room. He politely knocked on the door.
“Come in” She said.
He peeked his head in her door. She was writing in a notebook. “I hope I was interrupting anything”
She shut the book. “Not, not all”
“I came up here to say that dinner’s ready if you want some”
“Thank you” she followed him downstairs.

Dinner was a comfortable affair. For Jessica’s first American dinner, they had chili, a family favorite. Jessica said she had never had something like this before, but seemed to like it all the same. She told them a little bit about England and what it was like. “England to me, seems a little more uptight than America” She said.
“Why do you say that?” John asked.
“I don’t know… there’s something about it that makes you feel like you have keep up a proper image.”
“Do they always have tea time?” Drew asked.
Jessica nodded. “Oh yes. My mom loves to go to afternoon teas with her friends, so some days I find myself stuck in my house alone. Which I don’t mind… most of the time. When does school start here?”
“In three weeks I think. So you’ll have time to adjust before going”
“What’s it like?”
“Pretty much like your typical high school, only we don’t have sports and more specialized in the arts. Do you have any talents in that field?”
“I’ve sung in a lot of things. Everyone tells me I have a magnificent singing voice.” She told them.
“Maybe you could sing for us sometime” Cate said.
“Sure, I’d love to.”

After dinner, Jessica retreated to her room. Nick and Drew went outside to play basketball on their driveway.
After playing for a little while, Nick asked Drew” So, what do you think of Jessica, Drew?”
“I think she’s a cool girl. It’ll be interesting to have her around this year. And I know you’re crushing on her, I’ve seen the way you look at girls when you crush on them”
“Maybe I do, maybe I don’t, Sprout”
“She seems like someone that you would date” He went on.
“Yeah….†Nick said, sighing, bouncing the ball at the same time. “But I think I’m done in that department for awhile”
“Because of Hannah?”
“Exactly” Hannah was his last girlfriend. She had moved in the middle of last year. They tried to work out the long distance relationship, but it didn’t work out. “I’m going to take things as they came this year” He shot a basket and missed. “If the opportunity presents itself, I’ll go for it. But for now… I’m done”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if you and Jess start dating this year. I really wouldn’t”
“You know how awkward that would be for Mom and Dad knowing that they had a couple living under their roof?” Nick asked.
“That’s even if they’ll be still be together by then”
“True” Nick said. “Mom pretends everything is ok, but I know it’s not. Things are going to get worse between them.”
“I think you’re right, Nick. It’s a shame Jessica had to come into the family like this”
“It is… but it’ll be ok”

Later that night in his room, Nick laid awake thinking. Today had been a pretty good day. He found out that he was going to live with a very pretty girl for a year. He hoped that they could get to be closer friends. She seemed like a wonderful girl to get know. He could tell she also had some secrets to hide as well. He wondered if it was some past experiences or habits she had. He wouldn’t ask until she was ready to tell. He never pressed a girl to tell him or do anything until she was ready. “Let’s get some sleep, and see how the first full day with Jess in the house goes”

And by me (now we're all caught up!)

Chapter 4

Sorry this took so long, I hope y’all are still enjoying this, please send us feedback; honestly, we don’t have the “umph” to write without it.

For the remainder of that week, Nick and Drew took Jessica around Cincinnati, showing her Skyline Chili, the great American Cincinnati Reds Stadium, Kings Island and little everyday buildings like the grocery store, bank and shopping plazas. Although she had many clothes she had packed and brought with her, Cate insisted Jessica get some new ones as well when she took Nick and Drew shopping for back to school clothing and supplies. They had a little less than two weeks before the start of the school year; Jessica was excited and nervous to begin the year. Today, she, John, Cate, Nick and Drew were all going to watch the Cincinnati Reds take on the San Diego Padres. Jessica had never learned or heard much about baseball until they got to the stadium. Baseball was an American sport so she didn’t know or follow it till that day. They took their seats and Jessica could barely see over all the souvenirs John and Cate had bought her. Both Nick and John tried explaining play by play to Jessica, Drew was glued to the field and Cate was quiet, until John finished talking to Jessica, that’s when horrible fighting happened…again. They were in the 8th inning and tied at 6, the Reds were up at bat, they had 2 men in the corners and only 1 out. With one ball and two strikes, Ken Griffey Jr took the pitch, hitting it dead on, he ran seeing the ball leaving the park, the three players crossed home plate, and the crowd went berserk. Everyone in the stands were on their feet including the Lachey party. On instinct, Nick reached over hugging a cheering Jessica. She still didn’t completely understand the game but she knew they won and she was feeling the adrenaline from others. The walk back to the car was energetic, the three kids were talking and excited over the win; John and Cate were silent. The entire car ride back to the house, Jessica continued to ask questions about the game they just saw and the game of baseball in general.

“I don’t understand…why do they call it a world series when it’s only played between Americans?” She asked and while Drew laughed, Nick chuckled and then looked at her.

“You know, Jessica, that’s a very good question. I don’t know.” He smiled and patted her knee. When they got home, Jessica went up to her room and started to organize her things for school. Seeing one of Cate’s purchases mixed up in her bag she went downstairs to give it to her but stopped abruptly around the corner from the kitchen where she heard screaming and arguing. She poked her head through the doorway and saw Cate and John fighting, Nick was at first only getting a soda from the fridge but John quickly turned his attention of the argument with Cate on something Nick had forgotten to do and Nick began arguing with his father.

“John, leave Nicholas out of this! This is between me and you! Nicholas, go up to your room.” She said look at him calmly. John, however, was still yelling about Nick’s carelessness and moved his arms as he yelled. He didn’t see Nick walking out of the kitchen and didn’t realize he was there until his fist came into contact with Nick’s jaw. Jessica saw this and ran to her room dropping Cate’s new shirt on the carpet.

“John…!†She heard Cate scream terrified and in disbelief. She heard John trying to apologize to Nick and after that closed her bedroom door lying on her bed not understanding what had just happened. She heard Nick’s footsteps coming up the stairs and then his door closing, she waiting ten minutes before getting up and lightly tapping on the door.

“Nick, can I come in…?” She asked quietly.

“Sure…” She heard a muffled sound. She walked in and he was lying on his bed throwing a football up to the ceiling. Jessica sat on the edge of his bed not knowing what to do.

“Nick…are you okay?” She asked gently.

“I’m fine…” She looked at his face for the first time noticing the bruise mark forming on his cheek and the little cut below his lip.

“You’re face…” She said sadly. “I was down there…I saw…” He stopped throwing the football and looked at her.

“What are you talking about…?” He seemed angry almost.

“Please, don’t be mad…I was only going down to bring your mom her shirt…” Jessica tried explaining and Nick sat up, his expression changed.

“It’s okay…its fine…” He put his hand on her leg.

“Let me help you clean up, your face…it’s bleeding.” She said concerned. Nick didn’t say anything but took her hands she offered to him. She led him into the bathroom and sat him on the edge of the tub; she went through the medicine cabinet pulling out some gauze pads and Neosporin along with a band aid. She “doctored” him up and then did what she felt was right…hugged him.

“I’m sorry…” She said, not for one specific thing she had done…but for everything…she was just…sorry.
