Our Review:
While many have gained an appreciation for Jessica Simpson's tattooed, penny-pinching and very patient hubby, learning to love his sanitized soul music proves more complicated. Separated from his 98 Degrees pals, Nick has taken it down a couple degrees with generic rhythms, cheap drum-machine effects and a few too many pop clichés. Some of the swoonier stuff, like the Newlyweds theme ballad "This I Swear," works and is destined to be a number-one hit at the local winter dance. But you'll have more fun digging into the subtext of the first single "Shut Up," in which the singer is asking his lover to stop talking so they can get busy. Hmmm, who's that about?
