But enough of my shameless gushing - time for a harsh look at the dimmer end of the celebrity spectrum. Anyone who’s had occasion to watch MTV’s breathtakingly dull reality show ‘Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica” - which chronicles singers Nick Lachey (98 Degrees) and Jessica Simpson’s first steps on the path of matrimony - will know that rocket science is not clamouring to lure these two away from singing.

In fact, whole web pages are now being devoted to cataloguing great Jessica quotes from the show - including a particularly spectacular incident when she refused to eat buffalo wings because: “I don't eat buffalo.”

Could she top this? Yes, indeed she could.

Unlike most celebs, who wisely shun the tabloids in an effort not to get upset by all the bizarre things made-up about them, Jessica had a little look at the gossip mags recently. Thing is - those stars who do land up reading what’s printed about them, tend to get somewhat riled when they come across something blatantly untrue. Wouldn’t you, if you knew your family and friends might see this and think you’d spilled the beans to a journalist about your upcoming wedding / new house / alien love-child before telling them?

Even the closest family members are sometimes taken in by the tabloid headlines, and call their famous relative to check that she isn’t really planning to marry Michael Jackson at a sunset, poolside wedding…

But who do you call when the article’s about you? That’s a tricky one. “I think I said I wanted a dog and people thought I wanted a baby,” says Ms Simpson, having read up on her life in a scandal rag. “I began to believe the rumors because I was very, very sick. I ended up going to the doctor and being hooked up to an IV. I wasn't pregnant.” I suppose she can always check with hubby Nick should The National Enquirer inform her that she’s getting a divorce…

oh good god that was just far beyond dumb. it's like don't you know what you want? i mean an accident would be one thing it's actually smart that she checked that out but to think that she was pregnant because the tabloids said it was just dumb as hell.

*sigh*
If it takes that much intelligence to be so famous I think I should give it a shot.
