ÂÂ* Dear Diary…I am sooooo excited… I get to see the Backstreet Boys perform tonight.ÂÂ* I can’t believe it.ÂÂ* They are gonna be sooooo totally awesome.ÂÂ* Wonder if I will get the chance to meet any of them while I’m down there.ÂÂ* I hope so, but I’m not counting on it.[/b]

Rach left her house at about 8:00 AM to head for Madison and her chance to see the Backstreet Boys. She planned on doing some shopping while she was in Madison before the concert and she wanted to get checked into her hotel so she wouldn’t have to leave her stuff in her car during the show, less likelihood of having the car broken into that way she figured. She got to her hotel about 1:00 PM and went to check in…Ahead of her at the registration desk were 5 young guys, also checking in for the night. As she waited behind them, she thought that their voices sounded familiar, but she just couldn’t place where she had heard them before. She turned to look around the hotel, as she was staying at a very nice hotel in downtown Madison, and someone bumped into her as she had her back to the counter. “I’m sorry, ma’am,” she heard a man with a southern accent say.

“No problem. I really should have been paying attention to what was happening in front of me,” Rach replied. She then turned around to see the 5 guys that had just checked in-she couldn’t believe her eyes, in front of her stood the 5 guys that she had come to Madison to see-The Backstreet Boys.

“Are you O.K.?” Brian asked her since he had been the one that had bumped into her. “It wasn’t your fault. I was backing up without looking behind me. I am totally to blame for running ya down.”

“I’m fine. There was absolutely no damage done to me. A little bump from you isn’t gonna hurt me much,” Rach replied, still in a state of shock that she was standing there talking to Brian Littrell of the BSB.

“Well, I would like to make it up to you. By the way, I’m Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys. And this gorgeous angel in front of me would be?”

“Oh…Iâ€℠¢m Rachel, and I know who you are. My adopted sister in Canada is always talking about you guys. She is one of your biggest fans, and all her talking about you since I met her online in March made me a fan of yours too.”

“So I take it you are here for the concert tonight?” Brian asked.

“Yeah, I am…it took me twenty minutes to get my tickets for this show. And I’m glad I got them.”

“Well, I was gonna offer you tickets to the show for running you down, but since you already have some, how about backstage p[arse]es for you and your boyfriend, or whoever you came to the show with?” Brian offered.

“Thanks, Brian, but it’s really not necessary. I wasn’t injured in the least, and it was both of our faults, neither of us was paying attention to what was going on.”

“No, I insist, and since you are staying here, you could also get a ride to the show with us, if you and your boyfriend don’t have other plans before the show that is. And you could join us for a late dinner, after the show, but I would like to apologize to you properly for what happened.”

“Well, Brian, I will take you up on your generosity, since it seems like you won’t take no for an answer. But it’s just gonna be me, none of my friends like your music other than friends from way out of town who couldn’t make it up here for the concert.”

“What…you couldn’t convince your boyfriend to come down with you?”

“Well, Brian, it’s sorta hard to convince a non-existent person to come someplace with me,” Rach said with a chuckle. “Although, I guess I could always say he is with me, since my dream guy is always with me, in my brain anyway.”

“That’s a good way to look at it, Rach, but what is a gorgeous girl like you doing without a boyfriend?” AJ chimed in after listening to the exchange between her and Brian.

“Well, I don’t really know, AJ. There are a couple of guys that I’ve been talking to on the Internet that seem nice enough, and may be interested in something, but I got burned big time trying to have along distance relationship over the Internet, and I’m not ready to go there and do that again.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I guess I shouldn’t have brought the subject up,” AJ replied.

“It seems such a shame a beautiful girl like you doesn’t have a guy that will treat her right,” Howie said as he joined the conversation.

“Guys, I think she probably wants to check in and get her stuff in her room, and we really should get our stuff upstairs too, so we can go and take care of the sound checks and the radio interviews we have scheduled for this afternoon,” Kevin said. “Nice meeting you, Rach. I hope you enjoy the show.”

“Well thanks guys. I’ve never had 3 guys tell me I’m beautiful before, especially not after seeing me or a picture of me anyway,” Rach said blushing at all the compliments being thrown her way by 3 of the 5 BSB. Nick hadn’t even stayed with the rest of the guys. He had left and went to stow his stuff in his room (and probably hook up his video game so he could get a few games in before they had to leave to take care of their responsibilities).

“Well, Rach, any guy that doesn’t think you are beautiful must be blind. Although, I’m goin’ blind here-I’m being blinded by your beauty,” AJ said with a huge grin on his face.

“Yeah, right, AJ. I bet you say that to all the girls you guys bump into in hotel lobbies right?” Rach responded jokingly.

“Oh…you wound me, girl!” AJ said, with a laugh in his voice. “How do you know me so well?”

“Well, I am going to go and get checked in. Brian, if you were serious about me going to the show with y’all, check at the desk and get my room number and give me a call. OK?” Rach said. She then picked up her bags and walked to the desk so she could get herself checked in and unpacked.

“Here, let me help you with your bags,” she heard AJ say after she finished checking in with the hotel desk staff. “I’ll help you to your room,” he said as he grabbed her suitcase handle.

“AJ, really, I am capable of carrying my suitcase and bag up to my hotel room without any help.” Rach exclaimed. “I carried both of the bags out to my car from my house and also from my car into the lobby. I think I can carry them up to my room from the lobby.”

“I was just trying to be helpful, Rach, but if you don’t want my help, I’ll leave you alone. Maybe now I understand why such a gorgeous girl doesn’t have a boyfriend.”

“AJ, I’m sorry, I’m just not used to being treated like that. I would greatly appreciate the help you were offering, if you would still be so kind,” Rach told him.

“That’s O.K.. I’ll forgive ya, but only if you promise to come with us today for our sound check and the radio interviews, so you and I can spend some time getting to know each other. Can I ask you a question, Rach?”

“OK, but are you sure I won’t get in the way at sound check and the interviews? Sure. You just did ask me a question.” Rach responded with a huge grin, laughing under her breath.

“I’ll even let ya ask me another one too, AJ.”

“Thanks. Do you believe in love at first sight?” AJ asked her. “I know I do, and I think it happened to me the minute I saw you talking to Brian.”

“Well, I do think it is possible, but I’m not totally convinced the feelings are true love. I definitely believe that is more like a physical attraction, which certainly can lead to love.” Rach explained.

“Oh. Well do you feel a physical attraction, as you call it, towards me? ‘Cuz I’m telling you, Rach, I love ya.” AJ said, sliding his sun gl[arse]es on top of his head and taking her hand in his and bringing it up to his lips to kiss in the style more common in the 19th century.

Rach took one look at AJ’s gorgeous eyes, and definitely started feeling very attracted to this gorgeous man, that sooooo many women and teenage girls drooled over, even though he was basically everything that she always swore she would never “go for.” (AJ was the typical ‘bad-boy’ of a boy-band with tattoos and the bad reputation that always seemed to follow one member of a boy-band). “AJ, I do think that I’m starting to feel something for you, but I’m not really sure what that feeling is.”

“Well, that is a start anyway. Now why is this taking so long for us to get to your floor? You’re only on the 5th floor of the hotel. We shoulda been there by now.” When AJ said that, both he and Rach looked at the control panel for the elevator, and saw that the button for the fifth floor was still lit, and that according to the floor indicator above the elevator doors, they were on the second floor. It felt like the elevator had stopped moving, and Rach started to get scared.

“AJ…what are we gonna do…we are stuck here!” Rach said near a state of panic.

“Rach, calm down. I’ll use the emergency phone here, and see what the difficulty is. Just remember to breathe and RELAX!” AJ said as he picked up the emergency phone in the elevator and started talking to someone on the other line. He was trying to remain calm and not let Rach sense the problem they were facing while being stuck in this elevator. As soon as he hung the phone up, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his cell phone to call the guys and let them know where he was. When they left to go to their rooms, he had told them he was gonna help Rach get her stuff in her room and then he would be right there, and he didn’t want them worrying about him. After he got off the phone with Howie, he turned his attention back to Rach, who he could tell was becoming more scared by the minute. “Rach, look at me…I won’t let anything happen to you. Talk to me. Tell me about yourself, it will help you get over this situation.”

“What would you like to know about me? I’m really not good at talking about myself unless prodded with questions,” Rach responded looking up into AJ’s gorgeous eyes which she could see because his sungl[arse]es were still on top of his head.

“Well, tell me anything you want me to know about you. And I would like to know more about what made you interested in the Backstreet Boys too, please,” AJ said, smiling because of the look Rach was giving him.

“OK…well, I have a great poker hand for a birthday when written out in numeric format-2/22/72-hard to beat 4 of a kind you know,” Rach said laughing as she said it. AJ started laughing when she got to the end cuz he didn’t understand what she meant until she got to the end of the sentence. “I have lived in La Crosse all of my life, actually spent most of my life in the same house too. Went to college at Viterbo College in La Crosse and received a degree in Elementary Education, but in the last 5 years, I haven’t been able to find a job teaching yet, so I am currently working as a temp in an office.

“As far as me becoming a BSB fan, that is all courtesy of a couple of friends I made on the Internet. One I was sort of ‘seeing’, and the other is like a sister to me. You have talked to her…cuz her boyfriend/fiancé talked to your management team and you all called and talked to her on their anniversary,” Rach said.

“That is really cool, Rach. You are talking about Nikki from Ontario, right? I didn’t realize that you were sisters though.”

“Well, we aren’t really sisters; we met on the Internet and became super close and sort of ‘adopted’ one another as sisters.”

“Oh, that’s really cool then.” As AJ said this, the elevator doors opened and we were on the fifth floor. They hadn’t even realized that the elevator had started moving again. AJ and Rach got off the elevator and went to her room, #569. Rach stuck the key card in the lock, and opened the door. AJ followed her into the room and set her suitcase on the luggage rack in the room. Rach turned around to thank him, and as she did he grabbed her around her waist and gave her a sweet, gentle kiss. Then the kiss grew and he slowly worked his tongue into her mouth, meanwhile his hands started rubbing her back. Rach was initially shocked by the fact that AJ was working his tongue into her mouth, and then his hands roamed down and grabbed her [arse], kneading it while he was making some major moves inside her mouth with his tongue. The embrace was close enough that she could tell that AJ was getting turned on by what was happening. Then suddenly, Rach pulled back and broke the embrace they were sharing. She felt as though her knees would buckle at any minute, and she didn’t want him to know what kind of reaction she was having to him.

“AJ, stop it. This just isn’t feeling right,” Rach explained as AJ looked at her shocked that she had broken the embrace. “Don’t you have a concert to get ready for? I know you said something about a sound check in about 20 minutes and then you have several radio interviews to do. I’m sure the guys are starting to wonder where you are. I’m sure they know that the elevator got unstuck,” Rach rambled on, nervous that AJ knew her deepest secret--she was 27 years old, and she had never kissed any guy in the way that AJ had been kissing her. She was also worried that he would know that she did feel the attraction that existed between them. She was just really nervous about feeling this way for a guy because of several incidents during the summer that had totally blown what little confidence she had in herself, especially when it came to romance.

“Rach, why are you shying away from me? I know you felt the electricity in that kiss. What’s wrong? Please tell me. I want to make it right for you, baby.”

“AJ, no…I can’t explain it all right now, just go and get yourself ready for what you have to do, please!!!!!”

“OK, Rach, but don’t think I’m gonna drop this subject. Get yourself all dolled-up cuz you said you were gonna go with us right? We’ll stop and pick you up here on our way downstairs. You have 15 minutes.”

“AJ…thanks for the offer, but I really don’t think I should be going to these things with you.”

“Nope…no backing out now…you promised me that you would come with us so you and I could get to know each other better, and I’m gonna make you keep your word on that matter. You now only have 12 minutes to get ready.”

Meanwhile on the BSB’s floor, the guys were starting to wonder what was keeping AJ. Howie had told them that AJ called to say that he and Rach had been stuck on the elevator, but they also knew that the elevator was now working. Nick’s response was “Who’s Rach?” when Howie told them about the elevator being stuck.

“Rach is the girl we met in the lobby, after we checked into the hotel. I kinda ran over her,” Brian responded.

“Oh. I must not have seen her. Was she pretty? Do ya think she’d be willing to come up to my room for some ‘fun and games’?” Nick asked, always interested in finding someone to sleep with him.

“Well, she is definitely pretty, but I don’t think she’s the type of girl to come up to your room for ‘fun and games’, Nick,” Kevin responded as AJ walked into the room. “What took ya so long, Bone?” Kevin asked. We were starting to get worried.”

“Nothing. I was just trying to calm Rach down, cuz getting stuck in the elevator for almost 40 minutes had her scared big time.”

“Are you sure it wasn’t being stuck with you that had her so scared, AJ?” Nick asked. “You are kinda scary looking if someone’s not used to seeing ya.”

“Shut Up, NICK!!!!!!” AJ screamed, tense because of the way Rach reacted and didn’t react to the kiss they had shared in her room. “Are you guys ready to go? I told Rach we’d stop by her room to get her to take her to sound check.”

“Yeah, we’re ready,” All the guys responded. With Nick adding, “Cool, now I get to see this hot babe.”

Rach quickly changed into a dressier shirt she had brought with her, leaving on her khakis. Then she put some make-up on and brushed through her hair quick since she didn’t want to make the guys wait for her. She just couldn’t believe that AJ and the rest of the BSB except for “Yucky Nick” had seen her looking the way she did. She was just about to sit down and turn on the TV when there was a knock on her room door. “Rach…are you ready?” she heard AJ shout through her door.

“Yeah. Just give me one minute please…you are early you know,” she hollered back. She slowly walked towards the door to her room, picking up her purse off the bed as she went. She hoped that the guys wouldn’t regret inviting her to come with them. As she opened the door, she was hoping it would be AJ standing right there, but the first face she saw was that of Nick Carter, baby of the BSB, and a spoiled, conceited jerk according to what she had heard. “Hi guys. Nice seeing you all again, and it’s nice to meet you, Nick,” Rach said as she checked to make sure she had grabbed her key card before she left the room. “Thanks for inviting me along, but it really wasn’t necessary, you know.”

“Yeah, she’s right; we don’t need no bow-wows like her with us,” she heard Nick mutter under his breath to Brian and Howie who were standing the closest to him.

“Nick, AJ invited her to come to sound check with us, and I don’t appreciate the comments you are making about her,” Brian said quietly to Nick. He was upset that Nick had said that about Rach, who Brian thought was a sweet woman that was beautiful in her own special way, and he was sure even though Nick said it really quietly that Rach had heard his comment. “Rach, I’m glad you agreed to come; it’s gonna be fun having someone other than us 5 guys and our road crew at this sound check.”

“Thanks, Brian,” Rach said, giving him a huge smile. “I have to say, when I came down here today, I planned on doing some shopping before the concert, but I never thought I would actually meet you guys, let alone be invited to sound check.” AJ came forward, and grabbed Rach around the waist and went to give her a kiss, she saw it coming and turned her head to the side just as his lips were about to touch hers so he ended up kissing her cheek instead. Rach wasn’t ready for another knee-buckling kiss from him yet, and he just looked at her wondering why she had turned her head, and he was also hoping none of the guys noticed it.

“Rach, I’ve missed you since I left you down here. Did you miss me?” AJ asked, hoping to that she did and that she was just being shy in front of the rest of the guys.

“AJ, it was all of 12 minutes. How could ya miss me in that short a period of time?” Rach asked laughing softly, hoping he would understand that it was just a joke.

“Cuz, babe, I want to spend all my time with you, and that 12 minutes felt like an eternity,” AJ answered smiling as he led her back to the elevator so they could get to their van and go to the Kohl Center. As they approached the elevator, AJ could feel Rach get tense, so he put his hand gently under her chin and turned her head so she was forced to look at him. He pulled his sungl[arse]es up on his head and said, “Rach, don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen. The elevator is gonna work fine, sweetheart. I will be with you the entire time. There is nothing to be afraid of. Trust me, please.”

“I’ll meet you guys downstairs. I always insist on taking stairs down. It is good exercise, and I can use all the exercise I can get.” Rach said, ignoring the pleas that AJ had just made with her to not be afraid of the elevator. Rach heard Nick mumble under his breath, “yeah...you sure can use all the exercise you can get.”

“No, Rach, we can’t risk being down there before you get down there, or you will be left behind. I want you there with me, Rach. Please…for me? Ride down in the elevator with us? Just this once.” AJ pleaded his case again, knowing that exercise was not her motivation for wanting to take the stairs. “The guys will not be happy having to explain my absence to our management team if I’m not there for the radio interviews and sound check, Rach, and I don’t plan on leaving the hotel without you. That means you take the elevator by walking on like a normal person, or I will pick ya up and carry you on forcibly. It is your decision.”

“Fine, I’ll take the elevator,” Rach announced as the elevator stopped on the fifth floor to let the group on. The six of them trooped on the elevator, and Kevin pushed the button for the ground floor. AJ could feel Rach was shaking, so he took her other hand and made her look him in the eyes, while he softly sang As Long As You Love Me to her. The elevator stopped on the ground floor, and before the doors opened, the guys warned Rach that at some point they would probably be going through a large crowd of fans, and when they did, she better hustle her butt so the fans wouldn’t be able to hurt her. “O.K.,” she said, “but I hope it doesn’t come to that, after all, I’m only a fan like they are.”

“Rach, you are more than a fan,” AJ replied.

“AJ, I am not more than a fan. I just happened to bump, quite literally, into Brian at the hotel. If that had not happened, I would just be a blank face in that crowd of fans that will be at the show tonight.”

“Rach, the thing is, you are a woman who is coming with us, that makes you someone the fans will see as a possible girlfriend for one of us, and that makes you fair game for being attacked in the minds of many of our fans,” Howie explained. He knew from the way AJ was acting, that AJ wanted Rach to become his girlfriend, but he also sensed that Rach wasn’t ready to hear that quite yet.

“Yeah, as if any of our fans would believe that any of us would date that fat hog,” Nick muttered under his breath as everyone went to get off the elevator. AJ stayed back a bit to talk to Nick, and Rach ended up walking and talking with Brian and Howie as they went through the lobby. She thought it was weird, AJ had been so adamant about being by her side up until this point, but now he was no where to be seen. She was starting to wonder if he wanted to make sure that he wasn’t the member of the band that would be [arse]ociated with “the fat hog and bow-wow” as Nick had called her. She was trying hard to ignore the comments Nick kept making under his breath, but they did hurt. She was trying hard not to cry because of these comments even though it was difficult, but she didn’t want anyone, especially ‘yucky-Nick,’ to see how his comments were affecting her.

“Nick, if I hear you make one more rude comment about Rach, you are not gonna be performing tonight. Do you understand me???? You will be in a nearby hospital, because I will beat the [crap] out of you. Rach is a great woman, and if you can’t see past the small flaws she has physically, you aren’t the man that your mom raised,” AJ threatened as he and Nick got off the elevator. He had made sure that Nick and he were the last two off of the elevator. “I really like her, and I plan on trying to spend a lot more time with her in the future. So get used to her being around.”

“AJ, you are screwed in the head if you think she feels the same way about you. I saw the way she turned her head when you went to kiss her upstairs by her room. She doesn’t like you. From what I can tell, she wants and may actually snag Brian if she decides she wants one of us, although what Leigh Anne will say about that is yet to be seen,” Nick said, glaring at AJ the entire time. Nick hated the fact that AJ was gonna force him to actually spend time with this person; everyone else was ignoring the physical flaws she had. Nick wondered how anyone could ignore all the physical shortcomings she had though; he knew he wouldn’t be caught within a thousand miles of someone who looked like that unless he was being forced to which is what was happening.

“Nick, I swear IF YOU SAY ONE MORE WORD ABOUT RACH, you will be in the hospital. I can tell you don’t like her, but she is a great person. She has feelings, and I’m sure she has heard every little derogatory comment you have made about her since we got to her hotel room to pick her up. Answer me: Do you understand the concept of ending up in the hospital???” AJ asked, even more upset, because Nick had noticed the way Rach had shied away from him outside her room. AJ was also worried that Nick may be right about Rach preferring B-Rok, and that hurt him because he knew she had been affected by the kiss they shared in her room earlier. He was really hoping the reason she was avoiding him was because she didn’t want to face the chemistry that he knew they had with each other. “Answer me, Nick! Did you understand that statement?”

“Yeah...I won’t say another word about her,” Nick responded.

“Good, and you are also going to apologize to her for what you have already said. I heard the comments, and she was closer to you than I was, so I’m sure that she heard you.”

“Fine, I’ll apologize to her later.”

“No. You will apologize to her as soon as we get into the van, in front of the rest of the guys, since I’m sure they all heard you too.”

“OK.” By the time this exchange was over they had reached the van that would carry them to the Kohl Center, and the others including Rach were already situated in the seats. Brian and Howie were on either side of Rach, which made AJ feel really disappointed, cuz he had wanted to sit next to her so they could talk a bit more privately. As he and Nick took the remaining seats in the van, AJ looked at Nick and reminded him of something he needed to do. “Rach, I want to say I’m sorry to you for the rude comments I’ve made about you since we met at your hotel room. Please say you’ll forgive me, or I think I may be killed by the mad man here,” Nick said, while motioning towards AJ with his hand.

“Consider it forgotten, Nick. I personally could care less about your opinion of me actually, so I was gonna totally ignore your comments,” Rach said. She only said this cuz she really didn’t want to let Nick know how his words affected her. While they had been waiting for AJ and Nick, Brian, and Howie had sat next to her to help her see that what Nick had said wasn’t true, and that they thought she was a great woman. Howie had planned on moving, so AJ could sit with Rach, but no one saw Nick and AJ coming, so Howie didn’t get moved in time.

“See AJ, I didn’t need to do this.”

Does anyone (who hasn't read this before) want me to continue posting this?

I know it's not up to my 'current' standards - but it was the first fan fic that I wrote (unless you count the story I had to write in 7th grade for English cl[arse] where I wrote a fan fic even though I didn't know that's the genre I had utilized :P)
