He's a good singer - more along the "adult contemp" lines as far as 'style' cl[arse]ification (music more like Jim Brickman's if you've heard any of that).

He actually wanted to record a song that Nick had the rights to (I just remember a fan of Groban's posting about it on Nick's official board long ago - can't remember the song in question).

Are you thinking about "You're the only place", I think Groban has performed it in concert, and we know that that song was on Nick's CD.
