Nick’s POV

Another awful morning and it was only 10:30am. I sighed and pushed through the café doors. I needed a cup of coffee, a HUGE cup of coffee, with lots of sugar. Maybe I should start by telling you a little about me. I’m Nick Lachey, I moved to LA from Cincinnati OH about 2 years ago when I was 24. For the past 2 years I’ve been working on a music career, I’ve been shipping demos around to tons of people and labels and I keep getting nothing in return. Today was another one of those days. I’d just had another let down, the 3rd one this week. I walked over and ordered my coffee, I was standing there waiting for the lady to make it and I just looked around the coffee shop but my eyes stopped on one of the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. She was giving the waitress money for her check. She had beautiful hazel eyes and golden blonde hair that fell a little below her shoulders. She had a petite figure, and a guy couldn’t help but notice her busty chest, after all I am a man. She wasn’t extremely skinny but nowhere near fat, she was just right. She had a beaming smile. My attention was brought back to the lady who had made my coffee. I paid and saw the girl walking out the door. ‘That’s the one,’ I thought to myself. ‘Something about her, I know it. She’s the one.’ I left the shop and followed her trying not to give myself away. She couldn’t be more then 19 maybe 20 I thought to myself. She walked two blocks and turned the corner. I watched her go into the Lisa Kline women’s clothing store. I decided to give it a go and walk in. I saw her behind the counter and it dawned on me, ‘she works here.’ I looked around and then walked up to her. I looked at the name tag she had now put on. ‘Jessica…the name of an angel’ I thought.
“Excuse me, I am trying to find something for my sister and you look about her age, I thought maybe you could help me find something.” Truth was I didn’t have a sister but I was at a women’s shop. ‘I’ll give it to Lea or something.’ She smiled and led me over to a section that had tons of cute tops.
“What’s her favorite color?” I stopped to think.
“Umm…blue, light blue.”
“Okay let me see what we’ve got that she might like.” I nodded and just kept my eyes on her the whole time. She picked a few shirts out for me and I chose 2 shirts out of the ones she showed me.
“Thank you, I think I like these two the best.” She smiled and brought them over to the register to ring them up.
“Okay, your total is $120.82…” I took out my credit card, ‘this is it for excessive spending this week’ I thought to myself, ‘you need to find a record label…FAST!’I paid for the shirts and she put them in a bag.
“Thank you sir, have a good day.” I gave her my million dollar smile.
“Thank you…you too.” I waved and walked out of the door. I couldn’t just ask her out right then and there. So I went to my apartment and saw 2 messages on the phone. I pressed play and put the shirts on the couch. First, was Drew and then my ex girlfriend called…the one who wanted to have dinner with me tonight because she was in town…the SAME one who broke up with me because she couldn’t handle distance…I shook my head and read through my mail. It was still only noon and I had a whole day of doing…nothing. I grabbed the phone book and looked up the number to the store. I called and asked to speak to Jessica. ‘Here goes nothing.’ I thought.
“Hello, this is Jessica…” I smiled; she had such a sweet gentle voice.
“Hi Jessica…this is Nick Lachey, you helped me pick out those shirts for my sister today…remember?” More like you helped me pick them out 20 minutes ago…
“Oh yes hi! Is there something wrong?”
“No, no…I was just wondering, I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful you are and well I wanted to know if maybe, I don’t know maybe you’d like to go for a cup of coffee…?” I was nervous. She was quiet for a minute. “Its okay, I understand you don’t want to.” I started to hang up the phone.
“Wait Nick…I’d love to go for coffee. Just tell me when and where.” I smiled and tried hiding my excitement.
“Well…I have the rest of today off…”
“I have to be at cl[arse] by 3 today.” Cl[arse]? I’d have to ask later.
“Okay…um†¦Ã¢â‚¬Â
“I get off here at 1:30, so give me an hour and ½ and I can meet you at the little café’ about 2 blocks from the store I work at. Padre’s is the name of the café’.” It was the one we were at this morning but she didn’t know I was there.
“Okay…that sounds like it’d be great. I can’t wait.” She giggled.
“Me either, I’ll see you then. Bye…”
“Bye Jessica…” I hung up and let out a huge sigh. “Yes!” I patted myself on the back. “I’m going out with her!” I chanted to myself and went off to the shower to get ready for today’s “coffee date” I got out of the shower and put on some kakis and a light blue button down shirt. I put on my cologne and grabbed my keys. It was 1:15 and it took, about 15-20 minutes to get there with the traffic. I finally made it there at 1:31 and she was just walking in as I was. She had changed…she wasn’t wearing as dressy clothes as she was at work instead she looked even younger…she was wearing hip-hugging jeans and a cute white spaghetti strapped tank top with a gold star on the front, over that she was wearing a white velour hoodie. Her pants were tight and definitely looked good on her and she was wearing ADIDAS sneakers with her hair pulled into a messy pony tail. I smiled and walked over to her.
“Hey…” She looked at me and smile. God was she beautiful. I pulled her chair out for her and then sat across from her. We both ordered a large mocha cappuccino with chocolate swirl. I sat there staring at her and how beautiful she was. “So tell me about Jessica Simpson…” I looked into her glittering eyes.
“Well…Iâ€⠢m pretty boring.” She giggled and I smiled. “I’m 18, I just went into college, UCLA.” I looked at her impressed.
“What are you majoring in?”
“I don’t know, I haven’t picked and I know that’s bad but I’m taking a lot of medical courses. I’d love to be a children’s doctor, or deliver babies, as long as I can work with babies and kids I’m happy.”
“That’s great.”
“Are you from California?”
“No, I moved out here from Texas. That’s where all my family still is actually. What about you?” She looked at me curiously.
“I’m from Cincinnati…I’m out here trying to get into the singing business.” She arched her eyebrow.
“Singing…?† I nodded my head.
“Yeah, I’ve got a few demos out and I’m shipping them to different labels.”
“That’s awesome…” I smiled at her and reached across the table for her hand which she gladly left in mine. “I know this is kind of rude of me but, how old are you?” I sighed, thinking as soon as she found out she’d want nothing to do with me.
“I’m 26…” I said kind of softly.
“Oh cool…” Was all she responded with. She didn’t push my hand away, so that was an okay, maybe she didn’t care about my age. We talked for almost 2 hours and then at 3:00 she had to leave in order to make it to her cl[arse]. I walked her out of the coffee shop after paying and hailed a cab for her. She had her backpack with her and she took out a piece of paper.
“Here…” She wrote her number down on it. “Call me later today maybe…I get out of cl[arse] at 5, I should be home by 5:30.” I smiled.
“I will…I’ll call at 5:45, how’s that?” She giggled.
“Perfect!” The cab pulled up and I opened the door for her. “Thank you Nick…” I nodded my head and smiled.
“Thanks for letting me take you out…I had fun.”
“Me too!” She hugged me and surprised me by kissing my cheek before she finally got in the cab and drove off to cl[arse]. I waited til the cab was out of view and got myself a cab and went home. I worked on calling more places about sending my demos to them and I kept a good eye on the clock so I could be sure to call Jessica at 5:45…ah, so far away that seems. I sat back and watched the clock tick, I wanted so bad to call her, I dozed off a little thinking about her…something about her, I just knew…that was her, SHE was it, she was the one.

Nick’s POV

I looked over myself in the mirror one last time then at the clock. It was 7:00 and I told her I’d pick her up at 7:30. I was wearing a black suit with a light blue silk shirt underneath with no tie. I spent 20 minutes doing my hair…it HAD to be perfect. I finally was satisfied and walked out the door. I stopped at the florist and bought her a dozen red roses. I hailed a cab over to her apartment and looked at my watch…7:27…almost late! I walked up to her door after I buzzed the button outside her apartment. I knocked on the door and she opened it, she was absolutely beautiful. She had a nice red dress that fell just above her knee and it had thin little spaghetti straps. Her hair was pulled up in some kind of twist and to little pieces fell gracefully cascading the frame of her face. She had on very little make- up and she had a little white shawl in her hands.
“Hey…”I smiled and she welcomed me in.
“Hello…†She was smiling. I handed her the roses.
“I bought these…for you of course.” She giggled and I kind of laughed. She took them and smelled them.
“Let me just put these in water and I’ll be ready.” I nodded and watched her walk off. She was so cute, she was tiny though…couldn’t be more then 5’2 maybe 5’3 the most. She came back, grabbed her purse and shawl and I reached for her hand. She happily let my hand stay there and even gave it a gentle squeeze. We got out of her apartment building and I turned to her.
“The restaurant I made reservations for is about a block and 1/2 from here; we could walk or take a cab. Whichever you want is fine with me.”
“I don’t mind walking…” She smiled at me and I led the way to the restaurant holding her hand the whole way. We got there and I pulled her chair out for her. She smiled and I smiled, we looked like a bunch of retards. But I didn’t care…I was having fun. We ordered some wine and when the waiter brought it over I waited for him to leave and looked at her.
“I’m sorry…I forgot you can’t drink yet. I’ll order you something else…”
“Its okay, its just a little wine. I’ll be okay.” I looked at her.
“You sure…?” She nodded and I poured her a gl[arse]. When the waiter came back over we ordered our meals and handed him our menus. I held her hand from across the table just as I had earlier that day at the coffee shop.
“So…Jess†¦Ã¢â‚¬Â She nodded. “Is it just you out here or do you have some family out here too?”
“Just me. I came out by myself, my family and friends are still back in Texas.” I nodded.
“Yeah, same with me. My parents and brother are all back home. My mom’s kind of angry with me.”
“For coming out here?” I shook my head.
“Well…partly. Not so much for moving here but for the reason I moved out here.”
“Oh…she doesn’t want you to sing?”
“Not exactly, she just expected to see me finish college and go into sports medicine.”
“Sports medicine…?” She asked me. I nodded my head. “That’s cool.” Our meal came and we ate in quiet.

Jessica’s POV

Here I am eating my spaghetti across from the most gorgeous boy…MAN I’d ever seen. I had to keep reminding myself I’m a girl and he’s a man. I’m 18, he’s 26. Why does it feel so right and fun being with him then? I kept looking at him throughout dinner and when we’re both done we just sit there…and talk. We must’ve talked for a good 2 ½ hours about us, our families, our friends, our childhoods. You name it and he and I talked about it. At 10pm we finally got up, he paid and we walked down the streets of LA. He held my hand the entire time and we walked by a vendor that was selling single roses. He stopped suddenly and paid the man for a pink rose. He handed it to me and I kissed his cheek.
“You’re so kind.” I giggled and he held my hand tighter smiling at me. We stopped at one of the parks and sat under a tree talking. He held me and I leaned against his chest. I didn’t think there was more I could possibly tell Nick but every time I opened my mouth I had more and more to say to him. The last thing I remember was telling Nick about my first kiss and how much the boy hurt me afterwards, I went home and cried to my mama that night, then I felt Nick kiss the top of my head before my eyes closed.

Nick’s POV

She was telling me about a boy that broke her heart and that’s the last thing she told me before falling asleep. I kissed her head and picked her up. I looked at my watch and it was 4 in the morning. This night went by way too fast. I debated whether or not I should wake her and bring her home but then decided I’d just take her to my apartment since it was only a block away. I carried her up the stairs of my apartment building and I couldn’t get over how beautiful she was. She had her head leaning on my shoulder and her arms were around my neck. I opened my apartment door and led her to my room. I laid her down and tucked her in my bed. I thought about waking her to change into some of my sweats but she looked so peaceful sleeping. I kissed her forehead, grabbed my sweat pants and walked into my bathroom. I changed and went out into the living room. I got the couch set up and watched a little TV before finally falling asleep.

Jessica’s POV

I woke up to unfamiliar surroundings and looked down at myself; I was still completely dressed in my clothes from last night. I turned to my side and saw a clock…it was 11 in the morning and where the hell was I? I pulled the covers back and got out of the bed. I went out the open door and walked into a living room, that’s when I finally realized this was Nick’s apartment. I smiled when I saw him on the couch sprawled out sleeping. He looked so cute. He had grey sweats on and no shirt and well I couldn’t help but look at him. He had the blanket barely covering him and his arms were above his head. He looked like he had this little grin on his face in his sleep. I giggled and walked over to him. I sat on the edge of the couch and leaned over. I kissed his cheek and he moved a little but now much. I held onto one of his hands and shook him. He opened his eyes a little and smiled when he saw me.
“Morning sleepy head.” He smiled and I leaned down and kissed his cheek.
“Morning Jess…did you sleep okay?” I nodded. I pulled him up and he picked me up. I squealed.
“I slept perfect but I have to go home and get showered and ready for cl[arse]. I’m going to be late if I don’t go.” He put me down and walked me to his door.
“You sure you don’t’ want me to bring you home?” I shook my head.
“You have a busy day. I’ll be okay. I’m a big girl…I promise.” He laughed and tickled me. “Stoppp.”
“I’ll call you when you get out of cl[arse] today okay?” I nodded and leaned in for a hug. He wrapped his arms around me and held me. I pulled back and looked up at him. He leaned down and kissed me and I melted into his touch. I finally pulled away so I could come up for some air. I pulled back and smiled again.
“Goodbye Nicholas.”
“Bye Jess.” I walked out and got a cab to drive me to my apartment, I couldn’t stop smiling the entire ride there.
