Nick’s POV
Another awful morning and it was only 10:30am. I sighed and pushed through the café doors. I needed a cup of coffee, a HUGE cup of coffee, with lots of sugar. Maybe I should start by telling you a little about me. I’m Nick Lachey, I moved to LA from Cincinnati OH about 2 years ago when I was 24. For the past 2 years I’ve been working on a music career, I’ve been shipping demos around to tons of people and labels and I keep getting nothing in return. Today was another one of those days. I’d just had another let down, the 3rd one this week. I walked over and ordered my coffee, I was standing there waiting for the lady to make it and I just looked around the coffee shop but my eyes stopped on one of the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. She was giving the waitress money for her check. She had beautiful hazel eyes and golden blonde hair that fell a little below her shoulders. She had a petite figure, and a guy couldn’t help but notice her busty chest, after all I am a man. She wasn’t extremely skinny but nowhere near fat, she was just right. She had a beaming smile. My attention was brought back to the lady who had made my coffee. I paid and saw the girl walking out the door. ‘That’s the one,’ I thought to myself. ‘Something about her, I know it. She’s the one.’ I left the shop and followed her trying not to give myself away. She couldn’t be more then 19 maybe 20 I thought to myself. She walked two blocks and turned the corner. I watched her go into the Lisa Kline women’s clothing store. I decided to give it a go and walk in. I saw her behind the counter and it dawned on me, ‘she works here.’ I looked around and then walked up to her. I looked at the name tag she had now put on. ‘Jessica…the name of an angel’ I thought.
“Excuse me, I am trying to find something for my sister and you look about her age, I thought maybe you could help me find something.†Truth was I didn’t have a sister but I was at a women’s shop. ‘I’ll give it to Lea or something.’ She smiled and led me over to a section that had tons of cute tops.
“What’s her favorite color?†I stopped to think.
“Umm…blue, light blue.â€Â
“Okay let me see what we’ve got that she might like.†I nodded and just kept my eyes on her the whole time. She picked a few shirts out for me and I chose 2 shirts out of the ones she showed me.
“Thank you, I think I like these two the best.†She smiled and brought them over to the register to ring them up.
“Okay, your total is $120.82…†I took out my credit card, ‘this is it for excessive spending this week’ I thought to myself, ‘you need to find a record label…FAST!’I paid for the shirts and she put them in a bag.
“Thank you sir, have a good day.†I gave her my million dollar smile.
“Thank you…you too.†I waved and walked out of the door. I couldn’t just ask her out right then and there. So I went to my apartment and saw 2 messages on the phone. I pressed play and put the shirts on the couch. First, was Drew and then my ex girlfriend called…the one who wanted to have dinner with me tonight because she was in town…the SAME one who broke up with me because she couldn’t handle distance…I shook my head and read through my mail. It was still only noon and I had a whole day of doing…nothing. I grabbed the phone book and looked up the number to the store. I called and asked to speak to Jessica. ‘Here goes nothing.’ I thought.
“Hello, this is Jessica…†I smiled; she had such a sweet gentle voice.
“Hi Jessica…this is Nick Lachey, you helped me pick out those shirts for my sister today…remember?†More like you helped me pick them out 20 minutes ago…
“Oh yes hi! Is there something wrong?â€Â
“No, no…I was just wondering, I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful you are and well I wanted to know if maybe, I don’t know maybe you’d like to go for a cup of coffee…?†I was nervous. She was quiet for a minute. “Its okay, I understand you don’t want to.†I started to hang up the phone.
“Wait Nick…I’d love to go for coffee. Just tell me when and where.†I smiled and tried hiding my excitement.
“Well…I have the rest of today off…â€Â
“I have to be at cl[arse] by 3 today.†Cl[arse]? I’d have to ask later.
“Okay…um†¦Ã¢â‚¬Â
“I get off here at 1:30, so give me an hour and ½ and I can meet you at the little café’ about 2 blocks from the store I work at. Padre’s is the name of the café’.†It was the one we were at this morning but she didn’t know I was there.
“Okay…that sounds like it’d be great. I can’t wait.†She giggled.
“Me either, I’ll see you then. Bye…â€Â
“Bye Jessica…†I hung up and let out a huge sigh. “Yes!†I patted myself on the back. “I’m going out with her!†I chanted to myself and went off to the shower to get ready for today’s “coffee date†I got out of the shower and put on some kakis and a light blue button down shirt. I put on my cologne and grabbed my keys. It was 1:15 and it took, about 15-20 minutes to get there with the traffic. I finally made it there at 1:31 and she was just walking in as I was. She had changed…she wasn’t wearing as dressy clothes as she was at work instead she looked even younger…she was wearing hip-hugging jeans and a cute white spaghetti strapped tank top with a gold star on the front, over that she was wearing a white velour hoodie. Her pants were tight and definitely looked good on her and she was wearing ADIDAS sneakers with her hair pulled into a messy pony tail. I smiled and walked over to her.
“Hey…†She looked at me and smile. God was she beautiful. I pulled her chair out for her and then sat across from her. We both ordered a large mocha cappuccino with chocolate swirl. I sat there staring at her and how beautiful she was. “So tell me about Jessica Simpson…†I looked into her glittering eyes.
“Well…Iâ€⠢m pretty boring.†She giggled and I smiled. “I’m 18, I just went into college, UCLA.†I looked at her impressed.
“What are you majoring in?â€Â
“I don’t know, I haven’t picked and I know that’s bad but I’m taking a lot of medical courses. I’d love to be a children’s doctor, or deliver babies, as long as I can work with babies and kids I’m happy.â€Â
“That’s great.â€Â
“Are you from California?â€Â
“No, I moved out here from Texas. That’s where all my family still is actually. What about you?†She looked at me curiously.
“I’m from Cincinnati…I’m out here trying to get into the singing business.†She arched her eyebrow.
“Singing…?† I nodded my head.
“Yeah, I’ve got a few demos out and I’m shipping them to different labels.â€Â
“That’s awesome…†I smiled at her and reached across the table for her hand which she gladly left in mine. “I know this is kind of rude of me but, how old are you?†I sighed, thinking as soon as she found out she’d want nothing to do with me.
“I’m 26…†I said kind of softly.
“Oh cool…†Was all she responded with. She didn’t push my hand away, so that was an okay, maybe she didn’t care about my age. We talked for almost 2 hours and then at 3:00 she had to leave in order to make it to her cl[arse]. I walked her out of the coffee shop after paying and hailed a cab for her. She had her backpack with her and she took out a piece of paper.
“Here…†She wrote her number down on it. “Call me later today maybe…I get out of cl[arse] at 5, I should be home by 5:30.†I smiled.
“I will…I’ll call at 5:45, how’s that?†She giggled.
“Perfect!†The cab pulled up and I opened the door for her. “Thank you Nick…†I nodded my head and smiled.
“Thanks for letting me take you out…I had fun.â€Â
“Me too!†She hugged me and surprised me by kissing my cheek before she finally got in the cab and drove off to cl[arse]. I waited til the cab was out of view and got myself a cab and went home. I worked on calling more places about sending my demos to them and I kept a good eye on the clock so I could be sure to call Jessica at 5:45…ah, so far away that seems. I sat back and watched the clock tick, I wanted so bad to call her, I dozed off a little thinking about her…something about her, I just knew…that was her, SHE was it, she was the one.
