Magazine madness goes full tilt on a supposed Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey split. The only problem is that it's not true. The couple made a career out of being "Newlyweds," so why is everyone trying to tear them part? Nick Lachey defends his wife and his marriage exclusively to Access Hollywood.
"No, it's not on the rocks. I don't know where they get these stories from," said Lachey.
Star Magazine and Us Weekly have plastered their covers with untruths about Nick and Jessica's life so Nick is setting the record straight with our special correspondent, Egypt.
"They put a picture of me coming out of JFK like, 'Nick with a mysterious blonde look-a-like.' It's my sister-in-law," Nick told Access.
"Do you think they're just trying to sell magazines or are they picking on you?" inquired Egypt.
"They're clearly just trying to sell magazines. They've told us that 'You guys sell magazines for us.' And they know there's no truth in what they're writing but they continue to write it," replied Nick. "Look, one week they've got us all romantic in Napa Valley and they're celebrating their second anniversary and a week later they've got us on the cover saying, 'Will they split?"
Egypt found Nicky trying to keep his sense of humor while shooting a guest appearance on ABC's "Hope & Faith" in which he plays a young father that Kelly Ripa's character has the hots for.
"You literally got more coverage than Bush after the election," commented Egypt.
"Which is sad, what's our country come to?" said Nick.
Nick admits that the media scrutiny can take its toll. Nick's 31st birthday party was held at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, where the normally media friendly pair refused to talk to press. They just posed for photographs and were lead away.
"They build you up and tear you down. That's the cycle," said Nick.
"Welcome to Hollywood, baby," said Egypt.
"Yep, I'm in the thick of it," smiled Nick.
